must be dropped off and picked-up


at the main door.
Traffic Flow must be followed.
We will not release students at the door.
Parents must be in car rider line.

CHANGES IN TRANSPORTATION

send a note with your child if they


will not be going home their regular way.

If

a change needs to be made during the day,


the office needs to be notified by 2:30.

BULLYING

A pattern of fear and intimidation, includes


facebook etc, can become school issue even
if begun outside of school, will be reviewed
on case-by-case basis and disciplined
according to handbook.

WRITING IN FIRST GRADE


Writing in First Grade is taught through First Hand
Writing and Common Core Frameworks, through a
developmental approach which allows students to
free-write about moments in their lives which brings
more meaning than just writing to a prompt.

Folders: Your child will bring home the folder
nightly Monday through Thursday. Weekly your

S.T.E.M. is:
The bridging of science, technology, engineering, and math to
promote problem solving through knowledge, innovation, and the
ability to analyze, reason, and communicate ideas.
The integration of science, technology, engineering, and math into
real life problem solving situations.
Inquiry-based problem solving which integrates science, technology,
engineering, and math using processes such as designing
experiments, asking questions, and developing ideas to solve every
day problems.

HOMEWORK
Homework is NOT assigned to cause you hardship, Please let me

Math
Math examples are provided in the weekly newsletter and Daily Math
Practice sheets are sent home Monday-Thursday

Spelling
Spelling words are in the weekly newsletter. Have your child write the
spelling words, make flashcards, Give your child a quiz on Thursday night.

Handwriting
Writing in any form is helpful either, shopping list, recipes, Christmas list,
etc.

Reading
Weekly reading passage is sent home every Wednesday. Read and answer
questions.
Book bags with weekly books are sent home on Monday-Thursday.
Sight word list are located in the newsletters each week

GRADES IN FIRST GRADE


Reading Grade will be based a checklist
that includes DRA scores, leveled readers,
and your childs overall reading abilities.
Math Grade will include based on the new
Report Card Checklist.
Language Arts Grade will include literacy,
spelling, and writing based on the new
Report Card Checklist.

BEHAVIOR OUR 7 LEVELS


Outstanding (pink)
Student has shown outstanding behavior by helping a friend, acting selflessly,
showing leadership, being a role model, helping the teacher or another adult at
school, etc. Students will receive a star on their clip for the day.
Great Job (purple)
Student has gone above and beyond by listening, working hard, helping others, and
showing respect.
Good Choices (blue)
Student ends day by making good choices. Student has had a good day!
Ready to Learn (Green)
This is where all students begin the day. The student is listening to the teacher,
participating, helping others, and showing respect.
Slow Down (yellow)
The student is at the warning stage where the teacher has reprimanded the
behavior. Ending the day on yellow is just a warning.
Think About It (orange)
This is the second warning and will result in the loss of 5 minutes from recess. Students have
to fill out a Think Sheet to reflect on their behavior and bring it home to share with you.
Contact Home (red)
Student will write a letter home to be discussed, signed, and returned to school
explaining unacceptable behaviors at school. Student may also be sent to the
principals office. If necessary, a parent/teacher conference may be called.
Ending a day on red will result in losing 10 minutes from recess the following day.
