TRANSFORMER

EFFICIENCY & ITS CONDITION

UNSOLVED

Q.) Explain the efficiency of a transformer.

Q.) Derive the condition for maximum efficiency of a transformer.

Q.) Explain all-day efficiency of a transformer.

Q.) Give comparison between all-day efficiency and ordinary

efficiency.

Q.) A 100kVA transformer has iron loss of 3kW and full-load

copper loss of 1kW. Calculate the efficiency at i) full-load unity pf
ii) quarter load 0.8pf leading.

Q.) A 120kVA transformer has an iron loss of 1.5kW and full-load

copper loss of 1.6kW. Calculate i) the kVA load at maximum
efficiency, ii) the efficiency at half full load and 0.8 lagging pf.

Q.) A 100kVA lighting transformer has a full load loss of 3kW, the
loss being equally divided between iron and copper. During a day,
the transformer operates on full load for 3 hours, one-half load for
4 hours, the output being negligible for the remainder of the day.
Calculate the all-day efficiency.

Q.) A 50kVA single-phase transformer has load for a day as

given 50kVA at 0.9 lag pf for 8 hours, 35kVA at 0.7 lag for 10
hours, No load for 4 hours. The iron loss is 1000W and the fullload copper loss is 1100W. Calculate the all-day efficiency.
