There is great variety in how to identify and classify

steels. However, most of the steels used have a

standardized designation industrially expressed by
numbers, letters and signs. There are two types of
designations for each type of material, symbolic and
other numeric.

Symbolic designation

The symbolic designation normally expresses the physical, chemical and

technological characteristics of the material and, in many cases, other
additional features allowing them to identify more precisely.
