syllabus

students will independently explore their own artistic interests


and further their passion for creativity and learning with 21st
century skills. they will continue to build on their art 1
knowledge, learning new techniques and processes.

WHY ART CLASS? YOU WILL BE ABLE TO...

Demonstrate how to use the tools, materials and techniques of various 2D & 3D
media for intentional effects in original art.
Analyze how the Principles (of Design) are used in art creation.
Develop my 8 Studio Habits of Mind.

Integrate the characteristics of the tools of a selected media in original artworks to


support artistic purpose.
Use drawing techniques to render objects (with highlights, shadows & a light
source) in artwork.
Emphasize the subject of an artwork and make it aesthetically pleasing to the
viewer by how the compositon is arranged.
Use various painting techniques to suggest value, depth & implied texture.

Utilize various clay building methods and techniques to manipulate form, texture
and covey meaning.
Discover modern and contemporary art history movements and genres.
Develop my own area of focus and independent curriculum.

* skilled, self-motivated students may explore personal curriculum for a full-year with approval

WHAT DO I NEED? Pencils, a sketchook, headphones, snacks..

We are super lucky here at CHS to have an awesome arsenal of art supplies.
However, youre more than welcome to bring in a personal set of any type of
art supply so that you dont have to share with anyone but yourself, and
maybe your table besties. FYI- It may be necessary for you to bring in
specific items if you have an independent project idea.

HOW DOES THIS CLASS WORK? SELF-MOTIVATION...


All unit art projects are due by the end of each marking period. If a
project is not completed (without an agreed upon replacement) or a lessthan-stellar grade is received, a student may redo or rework a project up
until the end of the marking period and it will be happily accepted. A nal
exam, written &/or creative will be given at the end of each semester to
evaluate student success, in addition to their portfolio of artwork created
throughout the year.
