- After this part, T passes out the handout which presents expressions.
- Then, T shows a map on the screen. T has Ss practice the expressions to describe locations.
T asks the location and Ss answer.
Where is the bakery? (It's next to the nail salon./It's on the corner.)
Where is Jenny's apartment? (It's just passed the flower shop.)
Where is the restaurant? (It's opposite the souvenir shop.)
- T asks questions to have Ss use as many expressions as possible.
4. Confirm/Repeat
Did you say...?
- T explains that when they want to make sure of what the speaker says, they can say "Did you
say~?" or "So, you're saying~" If they miss information or couldn't hear that, they can use
"Could you say that again?" or "Could you repeat that?"
5. Summary
I got it. You said...
Let me say that again.
- T says, "If you summarize the points that you heard at the end of the conversation, you can
check if the information is right and see what you are missing."
5. Practice the Expressions (7 min)
- T gets Ss to look at the dialogue again and check if they can see the expressions that they
learned.
- T shows a map on the screen and reads another dialogue. While T is reading the dialogue, T
points the location of speakers on the screen and follows the route.
- Some pairs of Ss are asked to make a conversation in front of the class. T gives the name of
building that they have to find.
7. Wrap up (2 min)
- T picks one or two pairs and asks them to have a conversation in front of the class.
- T wraps up the class.
Dialogue
Betty: Excuse me. Do you know where the post office is?
Betty: So, you mean I walk that way for 2 blocks and turn left at the corner?
Jane: That's right. Then, walk 1 more block along the street. The post office is just
past the supermarket.
Betty: I got it. You said go straight down the Main street for 2 blocks and turn left
at the corner. Then, after 1 block, it's next to the supermarket, right?
