Introduction
ThepurposeofthisdocumentistooutlinethecomponentsoftheFlippedandBlended
ProfessionalDevelopmentprojectandtodescribehowtheywillbeimplemented.Asstatedin
thedesigndocument,theprojectwillbeimplementedinthreestages:
1. Apretrainingscreencast
2. A45minutetrainingsession
3. Afollowupsurveywithsupportingjobaid
GoalandPerformanceObjectives

highschoolteacherswillbeabletocreatetheirowndigitalvideos,uploadthemto
YouTube,anddistributethemtostudents.Thiswillresultinatleast50%ofteacherscreating
videosforstudentsusingaflippedorblendedframeworkatleastonceperweek.
Bytheendofthetrainingsession,teacherswillbeableto:
1. Givenalearningobjective,usedistrictissuedlaptopstorecordaninstructionaldigital
videoofatleasttwominutesusingScreencastoMaticanduploadittoYouTube.
2. Differentiatebetweenblendedandflippedinstructionbydistributingavideodigitallyvia
emailoranLMS(flippedinstruction)orshowingavideoinclasstotheirstudents
(blendedinstruction).
3. Assessstudentsunderstandingofaninstructionalvideobycreatingatleasttwo
assessmentquestionsinaformatofparticipantschoosingtobeusedasawarmupat
thebeginningofaclass(flippedinstruction)orasanexitticketattheendofclass
(blendedinstruction).
Stage1:PreTrainingScreencast
Thepurposeoftheintroductoryvideoistointroduceteacherstotheconceptsofflippedand
blendedinstruction.Thevideoitselfwillserveasanexemplarofflippedinstruction,asteachers
willviewthevideopriortothetrainingsession.Thevideowillbeemailedtotheteachersonthe
Mondaybeforethetraining.Teacherswillbeexpectedtowatchthescreencastpriorto
attendingthetraining,whichalignswiththewaythatprofessionaldevelopmentsessionshave

Stage2:TrainingSession
The45minutelivetrainingsessionwillbeconductedinRoom129ontheThursdayofthesame
weekthatthepretrainingscreencastisdelivered.Fouridenticaltrainingsessionswilloccur,
oneforeachplanningperiod.Teacherswillbeexpectedtobringtheirdistrictissuedlaptopsto
thesessionandtohavewatchedtheintroductoryvideopriortoattendance.ScreencastoMatic
isawebbasedtool,sonofurthertechnicalstepswillberequiredpriortothesession.Teachers
willdemonstratemasteryoftheobjectivesduringthesessionbycreatingavideoofatleasttwo
minutesinlengthusingScreencastoMaticanduploadingthevideotoYouTube.
Thesessionwillmodeltheblendedinstructionalapproachinthatasignificantportionofthe
sessionwillinvolveteacherswatchingascreencasttobeprojectedinthefrontoftheroom.The
screencastwilldemonstratethetechnicalstepsincreatinganinstructionalvideousing
ScreencastoMaticandwillbepausedatcertainintervalsfortheteacherstoperformtheaction
beingdescribed.Additionally,thesessionwillmodelassessmentstrategiesfordetermining
whetherstudentsunderstandthecontentdeliveredbyinstructionalvideosintheflippedand
blendedinstructionalmodels.

Attheendofthetrainingsession,teacherswillbeintroducedtotwofinalcomponentsofthe
training:ajobaidandafollowupsurvey.Thepurposeofthejobaidistoprovideteacherswith
acentralizeddocumentforfindingsupportinformationaboutthescreencastingprocess.The
jobaidcontainslinkstothetrainingmaterialsincludingbothscreencastsandlinkstoexternal
articlesforextensionintonewstrategieslikeusingsmartphonestocreateinstructionalYouTube
videosandusingYouTubeswebbasedvideoeditortoeditvideos.Thejobaidcanbe

likelihoodforteacherstousetheseskillsinthefutureaswellastheirgeneralsatisfactionwith
