After completing this unit, students will be able to do


the following:
--identify the events of September 11, 2001 as well
as evaluate the short term effects of these events
--evaluate POV by exploring and writing from varied
POVs
--make comparisons of events that take place at
different time periods and orally articulate their
views
--interpret data compiled through a survey
--analyze theme, mood, and tone

Unit Summary

Students will explore the aftermath of the Spetember 11th terrorist attacks using
a cross disciplinary approach. In social studies they will focus they will analyze
perspective by focusing on the heroic response of Americans. In English they will
evaluate theme, mood, and tone in newspaper articles about the event followed
by the creation of a newspaper article based on an interview they conduct. In
Math they will complete a statistical analysis. And in speech they will develop a
motivating speech after comparing the events of 9/11 to the bombing of Pearl
Harbor.

Prerequisite Skills

Social Studies: Knowledge of the events of September 11, Understanding of how


to compose a blog using Google Blogger, RAFT Writing format
English: Knowledge of the events of September 11, Understanding of Moodle
Discussion Forums, Knowledge of theme, mood, and tone.
Statistics: Students should have an already existing knowledge base as it relates
to the major events that occurred during September 11, 2001. Although it is not a
requirement, students should also have a basic understanding of algebraic
expressions, problem solving, and basic Microsoft Excel Skills. Additionally,
students should be able to differentiate between measures of central tendency
(mean, median, and mode) and measures of variation (range, variance, standard
deviation).
Speech: The students should be familiar with the basic events that happened
during the attacks on December 7, 1941 of Pearl Harbor and September 11, 2001.
Student should have prior knowledge of presentation software (ie; PowerPoint, or
Screen castomatic)
