Standards Addressed:
SCSh7. c. From time to time, major shifts occur in the scientific view of how the world works. More often,
however, the changes that take place in the body of scientific knowledge are small modifications of prior knowledge. Major
shifts in scientific views typically occur after the observation of a new phenomenon or an insightful interpretation

of existing data by an individual or research group.

SCSh9. d. Explore life experiences related to subject area content.
SPS10. Students will investigate the properties of electricity and magnetism.

Description of how to implement in the class:

The goal of this project is to get students acquainted with electricity and magnetism (E&M) and to
have them determine objects these use in their everyday life that would not be possible with E&M.
In Timeliner XE, students will create their own timeline of the history of E&M. Students need to
include, at least 12 different events in time. Students need to include at least 4 laws related to EM,
which collectively I refer to as law events (e.g. Amperes Law, Faradays Law, Maxwells Laws, Ohms
Laws, Kirchoffs Laws and the Biot-Savart Law). Students must link a fun interactive website to help
them further understand these Laws to one of the law events. Students should also include at least 2
pieces of technology or ideas that are related to E&M that they use in their everyday life. Students
must also include at least 3 photos that are related to their events. Students should color code all law
events one color. Students should color code all inventions another color. All other events that are
not laws or inventions should be colored something different. Students will give 3 presentations on
their timelines.

Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This activity allows students to engage in the 4th LoTi
level of exploration, as the activity will be student centered.
Description of the sample BBPT file provided *:
Viewers will see an example timeline created in Timeliner XE on my weebly website of the history of
Electricity and Magnetism. Also, the .tl file is provided, if you prefer to download the example and
view it in its native environment.
