INTRODUCTION

WHY DO WE RESEARCH?
The general purpose of research is to answer questions or to solve problems.
Beyond this researchers sometimes study phenomena about which little is
known. This presentation tonight will discuss four areas that are very vital to
research. Our objectives.

OBJECTIVES
DEFINE HUMAN RIGHTS, CONSENT, IRB AND
STATISTICAL TEST.
WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT TO RESEARCH.
HOW ARE THEY USED IN RESEARCH.
WHEN ARE THEY USED IN RESEARCH.

HUMAN RIGHTS WHAT ARE THEY?

According to the United Nations human rights are:
rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality,
place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour,
religion, language, or any other status. We are all equally
entitled to our human rights without discrimination. These
rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible..
In addition:
The principle of universality of human rights is the cornerstone
of international human rights law. This principle, as first
emphasized in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights in
1948, has been reiterated in numerous international human
rights conventions, declarations, and resolutions. The 1993
Vienna World Conference on Human Rights.
For example, noted that it is the duty of States to promote and
protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms, regardless
of their political, economic and cultural systems.

WHY ARE HUMAN RIGHTS INPORTANT IN

RESEARCH?
It provides research subjects protection from harm that
might result from their participation in research which
improves the overall quality of the research being
conducted and the data used in the analysis.
It prevents gross abuses of research ethics which can
violate human rights.
ex: offering an experimental drug to a patient without
their informed consent
Violation of Human rights may lead to health risks and
health problems that need to be investigated to document
both the health problems and human rights violations
