Introduction
The New Curriculum has made a number of changes to what was once called ICT. Computing now
encompasses a well needed new approach to the subject to coincide with the wider world trends
and also develop problem solving skills for our students.
Changes this year at Soto
All of the year groups have planned into them a unit on Espresso Coding. Year 5 were first to
start this in September with very promising results. Teachers and pupils enjoyed using the
software and sharing their newly made Apps online. Whenever a year group is about to embark on
an Espresso Coding project, they will be trained at a convenient time by myself. This will ensure all
teachers know how to use the software, the skills involved and also how to progress the lessons in
terms of skills. Using Espresso Coding gives our students the opportunity to continue their work at
home. They can then involve their family members in their learning of the science behind
programing.
I have incorporated the use of Scratch into my Computer Club (Key Stage 2) and also been
trialling this out in year groups. Although I have found this software too challenging for some of
our younger groups, I am currently developing ideas and projects so this can be taught across the
school next year.

Edmodo is being used in Years 6,5 and 4 as a virtual classroom/student response system
iPads are soon to be used in the school (if you would like any information about how this is
going to be organised please see me)
Online homework is being set in many year groups using a number of platforms
eLearning lesson demonstrations are being conducted in year groups (see me to book one)
Google Apps has been launched for teachers (Training 22nd January Staff meeting )
The Knowledge Hub has been created to share and gather content

1. Make sure you are able to extend the able pupils in a
lesson
2. Give pupils more opportunities to be creative with ICT
3. Make sure each piece of work has personal feedback
from the teacher to the pupil. If this is verbal then
please indicate. Follow the marking policy.
4. Ensure you have evidence for a pupils work for a unit.
This may only be a photo, I CAN statement or a
worksheet. Please have these stored in a place
consistent with your year group.
5. Make sure the pupils are not finding the Coding units
too easy. If they are, move them on. Follow the teacher
plans for this.
