Interview Protocol for a Post-conference (Reflection Conference)

1) In general, how successful was the lesson? Did the students learn what you intended for them to learn?
How do you know?
Overall I feel that the lesson was successful. Students were able to compare to successfully use
strategies that they have learned in the past and apply them to the new learning. Majority of the
students were able to determine at least on correct answer on the assessment. All students have began
developing and forming the mathematic language to describe and compare their work.
2) If you were able to bring samples of student work, what do those samples reveal about those students
levels of engagement and understanding of what was taught?
The work samples show that the students were involved with their manipulative items and using
them correctly and did not always show their work on their paper. All students on all levels were
able to complete the assessment. All students were challenged on their level and can continue to
grow at this level.
3) Comment on your classroom procedures, student conduct, and your grouping decisions. To what extent
did these contribute to student learning?
Currently my students are grouped based on previous observations and work samples of their
ability levels. They are also grouped with student of the same ability. My class is still working on
the routine of clean up as a team between centers within the given time frame.
4) Did you depart from your plans? If so, how and why?
I did not waver from the original plans with instruction.
5) Comment on different aspects of your instructional delivery (e.g., activities, techniques, materials,
resources). To what extent were they effective?
I feel that the instructional delivery was very informative and child centered because the students
were constantly curious on how to play the game. I feel that the materials were very intriguing
to the students and offered a variety of skill levels. The materials levels ranged from student
working on adding and subtracting from 1-10, to students adding and subtracting from 1-15, to
students adding and subtracting from 25. Students also had a wide variety of techniques to solve
the problems.

6) If you had an opportunity to teach this lesson again to the same group of students, would you do
anything differently?
I personally would also encourage the students to clean up at an earlier time so that the
transitioning process would go smoother.
