SECONDARY LESSON PLAN

YEAR LEVEL & SUBJECT: Year 7 Geography

DATE: 23/07/14

NO. OF STUDENTS: 25 approx

LESSON DURATION: 60 minutes

TOPIC/FOCUS: Water is everything

The students will be able to: by the end of the class has an understanding as to why water is so important.
The economic, cultural, spiritual and aesthetic value of water for people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and peoples of the Asia region

A3 blank paper
Markers
LESSON PROCEDURE: This is a difficult class and the lesson will be altered to work with their needs. 7B and 7H usually follow the same lesson plan but this
has changed. It is crucial that students understand what is expected of them and the rules of the lesson.

Have all the topics pre-cut and table


organised to seat 4 groups (approx. 5-6)
per group. Ask students to line up outside.
Once they have settled down and are
quiet call out students by name (in their
particular group, they will be in these
seats/group for the entirety of the lesson).
Now move on to discussing the class
rules.

Rules:
1.)
Hand up to speak
2.)
No one is to be rude
3.)
You must sit in your given seat 4.)
Stop means stop
Anyone who ignores these rules will have
their name on the board. Two X next to
their name will result in a lunch time
detention. Three X will result in an after
school detention. If they have been given
a detention they can then be brought in to
the OLC for Math with Carys and Rachel

Lesson Development:

minutes

Activity Sheet

Hook: shake a water bottle and ask them


to describe the sound and it represents.
10 minutes: Discuss with the class about
why water is important.

Q.4) what does the term aesthetic mean
to you?
Q.5) what is an example of water being
used Spiritually and culturally?

Students will resist


and argue the details
of the contract.
However if so they
will lose points from
their home group
booklet.
There are 50 points at
the start a lesson and
it can be decreased
but never increased
above 50.

Separate students in to groups (Four


Groups). One group for each heading
Economically, Spiritually, Aesthetically and
Culturally.

Present each group with sheet of Mix and


Match and ask them to sort through all the
picture and facts and to cut out their topic.
Give 15 minutes for them to sort it out and
then present their topic to the class.

There final task will consist of the student


to divide a blank piece of paper (A3) in
the four and squares and cut and paste all
other headings/images into appropriate
sections of the paper.

reflecting on the learning
achievements/analysing errors;

Ask students to stand behind their seats


and wait to be dismissed (this seems like
a lot of time for that task, however the
class is easily distracted and lack
motivation)
