This Code of Conduct has been created in order to give students of Crosswell
Academy the general guidelines of what is accepted and prohibited on school
grounds. Any act of misconduct may be subject to disciplinary action by the
Academy. All students are responsible to acknowledge these rules of conduct and
other behaviour standards and abide by these at all times. It is the policy of
Crosswell Academy not to discriminate against anyone based on race, color,
gender identity or expression, religion, national origin, age and sexual orientation
in its educational programs and activities. The purpose of such is to maintain a
harassment free environment, which is also required as stated in the Habboon

Expected Behaviour

Behavior is an important aspect at Crosswell Academy. Our expectations are for

all students to correctly behave and to perform at their best, while in attendance
at Crosswell Academy and its properties. Students are held responsible for their
behaviors and will be informed when, not behaving properly. School staff are
encouraged to discuss a students performance with a student attending
Crosswell Academy. Positive behavior allows for a swift movement of class, and a
non-disruptive environment at Crosswell Academy.

Students & Educators

The relationship between a student and educators are vital to the educational
environment. Teachers need to be able to teach and administer their lesson,
while students need to be able to learn in a safe, sound and calm environment. To
maintain this environment, students are to be quiet and respectful to fellow
classmates and the authority figure within each class, which are the educators.
The same with students, educators are to be positive and nurturing, while
students are in their care. Educators are responsible for addressing inappropriate
student behaviors, which hinder and disrupt the classrooms flow. With this
relationship between a student and educators, an educational environment is
both instrumental and another learning experience for the teacher and the
student.

Progressive Discipline

Progressive Discipline is a teachable moment that is a positive approach to

administering discipline. Progressive Discipline uses a method of intervention to
point out the behaviour, without a severe means of discipline. Progressive
Discipline does not seek to punish, instead seeks accountability and behaviour
change.
The goals of intervention are for students to learn from their mistakes and
prevent negative behaviour from continuing. Through the implementation of this
program, helping students who engage in negative behavior to:
Understand why the behavior is unacceptable and the harm it has caused
Understand what they could have done differently in the same situation
Take responsibility for their actions
Be given the opportunity to learn strategies and skills to use in the future
Understand the progression of more stringent consequences if the behavior
reoccurs
