Choice #1: Attend CSE Meeting

During the month of March, I attended four CSE meetings for students in my
classroom. The meetings were held for the student annual review. The IEP for each
student was written prior to the meeting. The information listed was used to discuss
with the parents, receive their input and include parent responses within the IEP. By
completing my portion of the IEP prior to the meeting, it allowed me to have all of
the information that I wanted to share at the meeting in front of me and ready to
share. It also gave the parents a chance to see what I included and the opportunity
to change the information (add, delete, edit annotations).
Individuals present included: CSE Chair, school psychologist, general
education teacher and special education teacher. In all of the meetings, no child
attended. The children are in second grade and it may not be beneficial for them to
be present. Of the four meetings, parents were present for two of them. The
meeting was much more productive with the parents present. Receiving parent
input was useful in adapting the annual goals for the students and clarifying present
levels of the student. The parents were able to give us insight on life outside of
school what works and what doesnt work for each student.
