Task
Before filming your 5 minute news segment, you
and your team members will first conduct
research on resource conservation and the three
Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle)every good reporter
has to gather their facts.
Your goal is to then convince the citizens of Baton
Rouge, Louisiana, to practice the three Rs in
order to conserve our resources and protect our
environment. You must show your viewers how
these issues impact their lives and how they can
help.

The Process
1. You will be assigned to a team of four students (including yourself).
The four of you will work as a reporter team to gather information
and film a news segment. Each reporter will have different
information to gather.
2. Number off in your group: Reporter 1, Reporter 2, Reporter 3, and
Reporter 4. Then use the websites on the following slides to answer
your assigned questions. Keep a field journal with your notes.
Answer your assigned questions in complete sentences in a word
document.
3. After completing your individual research, work with your group to
create a script for your news segment in a word document. Make
sure to answer each question in the video.
4. Work together to film a five minute news segment with the provided
camera and any necessary props.
5. As a group, edit your video clips into one news segment to present to

Conclusion
You have officially filmed your first news segment on
WBRZ News 2! The viewers have responded
positively, and many have taken steps to raise
awareness about the importance of conserving our
resources by reducing, reusing, and recycling.
Various community members have also shared their
efforts to positively impact the environment.
Looks like you will soon be able to film a segment on
the great work the community is now doing! Make
sure to continue to share this information and these
ideas with others.
