Standard Ten
1. PLC's offer a universal goal to use its power to make a difference in the lives of
students. All of the educators in PLC's help each other learn and improve their
skills in order to be more effective in the classroom; these changes have made
PLC's stand out in achievement.
2. The first goal of PLC is to ensure that students are learning. PLC's react
differently to students who experience difficulty when learning than traditional
schools. Teachers in PLC acknowledge the relationship between their
commitment to students education and the bumps in the road that occur when a
student is not learning in accordance to their plans. These teachers address the
problems by designing strategies for struggling students by ensuring they have
support from their teacher no matter what. The response to these problems is
timely, based on intervention and directive. The teachers quickly identify the
struggles these students are having, their plan provides immediate help rather than
a prolonged plan, and students are required to get the extra help they need, rather
than a suggestion.
The second goal of PLC is to create a collaborative culture. PLCs recognize that
you must work together to achieve their goals and purpose of learning. Teachers
are PLCs work together and discuss how they can improve their classroom
strategies. Teachers work in teams to analyze the successes and problems to find
solutions. They engage in teamwork with continuous questions to create a deeper
analysis to promote team learning. This collaboration leads to success in the
classroom from the students. Along with using collaboration to improve students
learning, teachers from PLCs take away barriers that prevent learning. Many
teachers ignore what curriculum the students are actually attaining and spend too
much time on the intended curriculum. Members of PLCs will find away to get
away from isolation and go towards success.
The third goal on PLC is to focus on the results of the students. Teachers from
PLCs base their success off of the success of the students. Each teacher takes part
in an ongoing process of recognizing the current level of achievement of their
students, creating a goal to improve the current level, how to work together to
make that goal, and to provide periodical reports. The teachers of PLCs must
focus on the success of the student and how to adapt to the changes that are
needed in order to achieve their goals. Teachers have to work together to achieve
these goals and make assessments based on these goals.
