Screencast-O-Matic
Objective:
My plan is to teach my students how and why to use this tool in order to help enhance their
presentations. Screencast-O-Matic will allow students to record their own audio in concurrence
with a visual presentation. In addition, screencast allows students to publish their projects so that
all can see. By doing so this enhances a presentation by making it unique and individualized.
Overall, my objective is to demonstrate, as well as help students create their own account, so that
they too can begin using this wonderful tool.
Outline of Tutorial:
The way in which I will present this project is by creating a Prezi presentation. This will allow
me to visual show students how to use this program. In addition to creating a Prezi, I will use
Screencast-O-Matic to record my directions as well as show students how this tool is intended to
work. At the end of my presentation I will publish my work so that all can see.
Outline:
1. Begin by creating a rough draft using a word document.
2. Begin to create a Prezi by creating a slide by slide tutorial.
3. Utilize Screencast-O-Matic to record and publish my final project.
My presentation will demonstrate the purpose, use, and benefits of using such a
tool. This will include personal narrative as well as additional research describing
the importance of such devices. Furthermore, my presentation will describe in
full detail how create an individualized account.
Benefits:

Record Screen and Webcam

15 minute record time
Publish

There are many reasons why I chose to present this tool. One, I think that it enhances learning
outcomes for most students. This is because it makes for a fun assignment that is unique.

Students tend to perform better when they are having fun. In addition, students will retain
information longer when they apply themselves. By creating presentation students are able to
share their work with their peers. It is because of this kind of collaboration that peer assessment
is possible. This kind of assessment is called performance or authentic assessment. It is said that
when students are assessed by their peers they perform better overall. Furthermore, it is said in
the TEACH textbook that Interactive assignments create an environment in which students can
learn by doing, receive feedback, and continually refine their understanding. Through this
process, students take charge of their own learning. By integrating technology into the
classroom, you promote students passionate involvement in their own learning, allowing them to
be adaptable and flexible and to go beyond education as usual (Koch, J). Screencast-O-Matic
performs all of these tasks and makes presentations multidimensional. Lastly, creating
presentations with this tool incorporates many of Eric Gardners multiple intelligences. It is for
these reasons that it is important to teach this beneficial tool.
Three Examples of how this can be used in todays classrooms.
1. Classroom presentation
2. Creating demonstration videos for students and teachers
3. This can be used for yearbook assignments or end of the year presentations.
