FROM THE COMPOSER
If you are planning to perform or program my Trio for Flute, Clarinet, and Piano, youre in
good company. Over the past six years, the piece has been performed by ensembles throughout the
United States and in twelve countries around the world. And because I made the piece freely
available on imslp.org, theyve been able to do so at no cost.
This Trio is the first piece of music I ever completed, cover to cover. I was sixteen years old. As
you might expect, the piece is deficient in a few things craft and originality among them. But the
piece is optimistic and self-assured, and certainly very easy for most people to listen to. When you
perform it, do so with exuberance and joy.
Sean Michael Salamon

Trio for Flute, Clarinet, and Piano was first performed, unbeknownst to the composer, in May 2009 at the School of
Music in Wetzlar, Germany. It was given its official premiere in August of that year by students at the University of Puget
Sound in Tacoma, Washington.

Sean Michael Salamon's music has been performed by numerous ensembles throughout the
United States as well as in Canada, Spain, Chile, England, Scotland, Iceland, Germany,
Romania, Lithuania, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan. He is the founder of
early/new music vocal ensemble Ping (pingvoices.com). He will pursue graduate studies at
Londons Royal Academy of Music this year, having graduated from Carnegie Mellon, where he
was the music director for the CMU Originals (cmuoriginals.org), and the baritone choral
scholar at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Pittsburgh. He studied music composition with Reza
Vali and Nancy Galbriath, and conducting with Robert Page.
