R EACHING EUROPE - TRANSFORMING LIVES - TOUCHING THE WORLD

Week Two - Blessed Wednesday to all! We are back at another school today for Terrys
School Program. The format is the same as the prior day except that it is
performed indoor. Having benches for the kids to sit on and pay attention to
instructions are a huge plus. The fruits of these School Programs will be seen
this coming Saturday and Sunday when kids show up for Baseball Camp.
Our day began with a beautiful prayer meeting within the OM office house. The
majority of the attendees were Hungarian men; also present was a Pakistani lady who
spoke in the Urdu language and, of course, us two Americans. The Pakistani lady is a
major leader in the local Islamic Camp, which we will soon visit. We met and prayed
for four hours before breaking for lunch. Gabor and Terry were called out to the
baseball field to provide guidance for the grading of the womens' softball field.
Gabor also continued mowing the surrounding grounds of the baseball field with a push
mower. Candy stayed behind to prepare lunch for the group. It's always a pleasure
to cook Hungarian style!
The softball field has been in the preparation stage for over three months. The
grass area had been scraped, only to expose the underlying clay surface. Because the
design is for a professional regulation field, approximately four inches of sand was
brought in with the intent to mix it into the clay. Well, for all you farmers out
there, you know that a rototiller won't dig that deep, nor will a surface disc on the
back of a tractor (which was originally used for the purpose of loosening the clay)!
The neighboring farmer came over with a loader to no avail; the clay was just too
packed. So, we waited for his return with the third piece of equipment; the plow.
Success! While Terry and I supervised the machinery, Candy continued painting the
bleachers and the benches. Terry and Gabor finished off the batters circle with a
manual rolling drum.
We continued next day working on the softball field. The plow having turned the
infield, left large clumps of clay which are still too large for the hand operated
rototiller to break up and mix in with the sand. Now, we can use the surface disc on
the back of the tractor to break up the clumps of clay and help smooth out the field.
Then, we were able to use the rototiller to mix the clay and the sand. And we raked.
And we'll still rake! Finished the day with organizing the equipment box.
Saturdays early start to work on the softball field was essential because of the
scheduled Baseball Camp. A few spot elevations were shot within the infield for the
contracted Bobcat to move around and smooth the freshly rototilled clay and sand.
The finishing raking is still to come.
We experienced tremendous blessing today and Sunday at the Baseball Camps when 50+
kids came out to participate as a result of the School Programs. After a refresher
of the basic skills learned at the School Programs, four individual stations were
set up for a closer focus on procedures: 1)running and defending bases, 2)bat grip
swing, follow through and bunting, 3)fly ball catching and throwing and 4)hitting the
ball. Both days concluded with scrimmage games. Upon handing out the seasons
information and applications, Terry used colors to share the Gospel with the kids
with a colorful soccer ball. Track Cards were also given out explaining these Gospel
colors. During Sundays worship, we witnessed the dedication to the Lord of a child
(probably two months old). Rebecca is her name, please keep her parents and the
child in your prayers.
Monday and Tuesday morning we had the opportunity to help in a special ministry to
reach out to the younger Hungarians. Its known as the Puppet Ministry and is
presented in the public schools and churches in the area. Most of the children are
3-12 year old. Their attention and mannerisms are extremely focused. We attended
three performances and saw the kids introduced to the Gospel message of the Easter
Story! Many of them did not know of the birth, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
Each presentation is approximately 90 minutes and includes singing, interaction and
prayer. We had the privilege to share with three teens and their leaders from
Finland who were here to assist with the ministry. What a joy to see the Lords work
in Europe. The two days concluded with the official beginning of Baseball Practices.
