Terremoto de Limén: 83-92 DETERMINACION DE LA MAGNITUD LOCAL A PARTIR DE ACELEROGRAMAS: TERREMOTO DE LIMON Roberto Ramirez & Robert Laurent Laboratorio de Ingenieria Sismica, Universidad de Costa ABSTRACT: This study shows the apd calculation ofthe Local Magnitude ofthe Earthquake of Limén, based on ‘acelerograms from the Strong Ground Motion Measurement Program of the Seismic Engineering, Laboratory ofthe University of Costa Rica “The Local Magnitud is a measure ofthe sizeof an earthquake, determined for short periods and at rather close distances. This parameter is one of interest forthe scismic-resistand engineering, and itis also used in seismie 7 studies. ‘The Local Magnitude of the seism of Limén, measured from the acelerographics records, is 7.24 + 0.20 standar deviation units. ‘The attenuation ratio ofthis earthquake shows peak horizontal acceleration values out ofthe acceptable range, as is the case ofthe stations of Cartago, Carlos Monge Library (University of Costa Rica), Alajucla and San Ramén. ‘This behaviour is possibly due to the stations being located on soft soils, which causes an amplification effect on seismic waves. RESUMEN: Este trabajo presenta el cilculorpido de la Magnitud Local del Sismo de Limén, a partir de aceleropramas
