Description of Lesson: Using previous knowledge gained from the previous

color theory lesson, students will create their own color wheel to use as a reference
for the remainder of the unit. Students will have all colors (primary, secondary and
tertiary colors) present in the color wheel and organized in the proper manner.

Lesson Title: Color Wheel Creation

Curriculum Standards Addressed:
National Art Standard:
VA:Cr2.1.6a Demonstrate openness in trying new ideas, materials, methods, and
approaches in creating works of art or design.

Instructional Objective(s) Criteria:

Assessment(s) of the
Objectives:

What should students know or be able to do by

the end of the lesson? Objectives should be
observable and measurable
Antecedent: Students should be able to create a
color wheel with correct colors mixed on their
own using prior knowledge gained from the
previous lesson.
Behavior: Students will be attentive during the
presentation and stay on task during the activity.
Content: Art
Degree: 100% accuracy
VA6-3.4 (VA6-VA8)

Students will be assessed by

observation while working.
Students who are off task will be
either moved to a location
allowing better focus or asked to
get back on task.
Students will receive a grade
based on their execution and the
contents of their color wheel.

Materials/Resources:

Color Theory notes previously taken

Red, blue and yellow acrylic paint
Black construction paper (one per student)
White poster paper (one half sheet per student)
Pencil
Compass
Ruler
scissors

Prerequisites (Prior Knowledge):

Social: Students should be able to work quietly, avoiding distracting other

classmates. Students should be able to share materials without having issues.
Cognitive: Students should be able to apply prior knowledge into creating a color
wheel correctly, according to color theory.
Physical: Students should be able to use all materials properly and safely. Students
should be able to keep up with the rest of the class and stay on topic.

Emotional: Students should be able to work separately on their own work without
copying or getting offended by others.

Procedures:
Students will first be asked to take out their notes from the previous class to
use as a reference.
Students will be instructed to use their compass to make nine circles on the
white poster paper, all of the same size.
Students will then begin mixing colors in an organized way to avoid ruining
or wasting paint.
Students will paint the nine circles according to color theory ensuring that
each primary, secondary and tertiary color is present. Once the paint is dry,
students will cut each circle out.
Students will then use a ruler to measure and begin to determine where the
circles will be glued on the black paper.
Once the pieces are glued to the black paper, the color wheel is complete.
Accommodations:

To accommodate for students who may have a harder time focusing or

concentration, I will be sure to check on them throughout the lesson. By walking by
their desk and looking at their work, I will be able to see if they are keeping up and
following along. For students who may work quicker than the rest, I will be sure to
keep an eye on them and make sure they are doing their work correctly.
