RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

BY: YASAR AHSAN

Respiratory Systems
Functions
The human respiratory system is a series of
organs responsible for inhaling Oxygen and
exhaling Carbon Dioxide.

Functions:
Oxygen inhales through nose and mouth,
sinuses helps regulate humidity of the air.
Trachea filters air that is inhaled.
Bronchi branches into the lungs and are
2 tubes that carry air into each lungs.
Right lungs has 3 lobes and left lobes
has 2 lobes for the heart. The left lung is
smaller due to allow room for the heart.

Respiratory Systems
Functions

Alveoli is a spongy sac where exchange of

Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen occurs.
Blood passes through capillaries , pulmonary
artery carriers carbon dioxide to the alveoli, the
gas moves blood to the air. Oxygenated blood
goes to the heart through the pulmonary vein and
blood pumps it through the body.
Diaphragm is a dome shaped muscle at the
bottom of the lungs, which is a muscle that
controls breathing and separate chest cavity from
abdominal cavity when a breath taken in. During
exhalation, the diaphragm expands and forces air
out.

HOW DOES THE RESPIRATORY AND CIRCULATORY

SYSTEM WORK TOGETHER TO MAINTAIN
HOMEOSTASIS?
The human body demands oxygen to make
energy that it could control homeostasis.
Respiratory System: Is responsible for
inhaling Oxygen and exhaling Carbon
Dioxide.
Circulatory System: Red blood cell collects
the oxygen from our lungs and carries it to
our several body parts and red blood cells
collects carbon dioxide from our body and
transport it to the lungs, where it leaves our
body when we exhale.

DISEASES AND SYMPTOMS

DISEASES:
1)Influenza 2) Bacterial pneumonia 3) Lung
Cancer 4) Asthma.
Asthma:

It is a progressive disease that makes it

increasingly difficult for sufferers to breathe. Asthma is a
chronic inflammation of the lung airways that causes
coughing, wheezing, chest tightness or shortness of breath.

Lung Cancer:

Lung cancer is often associated with

smoking, but the disease can affect non-smokers as
well.Like all cancers, lung cancer is caused by the
uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells.

SMOKING IS BAD FOR HEALTH!!!!!!

INTERESTING FACTS:
The average rate of breathing depends upon age. New
born babies breathes 40 times each minute and 20 t0 40
times per minute while sleeping. Adults breathes 12 to 16
times per minute and breathes 45 times per minute while
doing extensive exercise.
