Overview and Need:

According to the American Psychological Association, 77 percent of Americans regularly experience

physical symptoms caused by stress, while 73 percent regularly experience psychological symptoms.
Yoga has been practiced for centuries in India, according to The Ledger; however, Americans are just
beginning to discover the benefits of yoga that help relieve the stresses of todays society. The Mayo
Clinic conducted several studies that displayed a direct relationship between reduced stress levels and
practicing yoga.
Younique Yogas hot yoga enables members to become more flexible, which increases circulation and
blood flow to the limbs (Livestrong, 2012). Warm muscles prevent injuries, increase flexibility,
eliminate toxins from the body, and provide additional psychological benefits. Younique Yoga was the
first studio in Monmouth County to offer hot yoga to the community.
Background:

Younique Yoga opened in 2010, offering hot vinyasa yoga classes. Amanda Smith is the founder of
Younique Yoga and teaches classes throughout the week. Since the growth of the studio, Smith has
acquired a staff of certified yoga instructors and a growth in student memberships.
Located in Allenhurst, NJ, Younique Yoga offers classes at all levels, from beginner to advanced.
Students are encouraged to practice their experienced poses with modifications and advance at their
own pace.
Services:

Younique Yogas hot vinyasa yoga classes are hosted in an 1800 sq. foot studio heated between 98 and
108 degrees. Vinyasa poses range from lying on the floor in a meditative-like state to advanced
stretches.
In addition to the 75-minute hot vinyasa yoga classes throughout the week, Younique Yoga offers nonhot vinyasa yoga classes, childrens classes, teacher training, and workshops to advance practice.

Staff Expertise:

Founder Amanda Smith graduated from the Integral Yoga Institute of New York City
with a 500-Hour Teacher Training certificate in 2005. In 2007, Smith received a second
certification from the Integral Yoga Institute of New York City for completing the 200Hour Hot Yoga Series. She has taught vinyasa yoga, hatha yoga, and restorative yoga.
Before opening Younique Yoga in 2010, Smith worked with Chase Bossart, Director and
Course Planner for The Yoga School of New York, to develop her own teacher training
program that specializes in hot vinyasa yoga. Smith selected the initial Younique Yoga
teachers from this course, which she still offers today. The companys expansion requires
that each teacher completes Smiths hot vinyasa yoga teacher training program.
Community Involvement:

Karma Classes are donation-based classes that present all of the proceeds to a designated
local company or charity. Previous Karma Classes included a child-friendly class that
benefited Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County, a class accommodated for
special needs children that benefited The Best Day Foundation, and a female-only class
that benefited the local womens shelter.
Awards and Recognition:

Younique Yoga was the first hot vinyasa yoga studio opened in Monmouth County in
2010. In 2012 and 2013, Younique Yoga was voted Best Yoga Studio in Monmouth
County. Karma Classes earned Younique Yoga the title of Yoga Studio with the Best
Mission by NJ Life Magazine in 2013.

Eileen Ghent Appointed New Instructor of Yin Yoga Class at Younique Yoga

ALLENHURST, NJ Eileen Ghent, recent graduate from Younique Yogas teacher certification
course, was appointed a new instructor at Younique Yoga by founder Amanda Smith on Monday,
September 22, 2014. Ghent will be offering a new class she developed for all levels of yogis titled Yin
Yoga, which consists of holding poses for longer periods of time in order to cultivate awareness and
interconnectedness of the self, according to the Integral Yoga Institute of New York City.
Ghent brought an enlightening quality to our classes each week, even before attending the
teacher training program. She has been practicing with us at Younique Yoga for a few years now, yet
she never stops trying to improve her flexibility and skills, or her mindfulness and connection with
her inner self. When she approached me after the program with the idea of teaching Yin Yoga, I knew
that she was the best graduate to pioneer this new class that emphasizes patience and unity, said
Smith.
Ghent currently works as the assistant coach of the Monmouth University womens lacrosse
team. Ghent is credited for implementing yoga into team practices to improve the flexibility and
strength of her players. Her experience in a leadership role and ability to motivate a group of

New Yin Yoga Class Offered at Younique Yoga

ALLENHURST, NJ The new Yin Yoga class at Younique Yoga extends the varieties of yoga
offered for students. Yin Yoga emphasizes patience and unity with a deeper stimulation of the
muscular tissues that are exercised in vinyasa yoga practice.
Paul Grilley, Yoga Journal magazine editor who attended the opening class, said, Students
experience a challenge in the emotional sense throughout the class. Different than the physical
challenges of fast-paced vinyasa yoga, Yin Yoga forces us to become intimate with the self, feelings, and
emotions through a meditative approach. Students receive greater mental benefits from this practice
than they might have experienced before.
This practice strengthens and lengthens ligaments, joints, and bones. All levels of students may
participate. Yin Yoga postures held for three to minutes are passive and relaxing, unlike fast-paced hot
vinyasa yoga that does not hold postures for longer than 30 seconds. Yin Yoga is taught in programs
dealing with recovery from addiction, anxiety, pain, or trauma because its mental benefits include
lower stress levels, interconnectedness with the self, and deep relaxation. The class regulates energy in
the body and increases mobility, flexibility, and joint protection.
Students can employ Yin Yoga postures as coping mechanism for stress and anxiety in
