STAGE 2 DANCE

ASSESSMENT TYPE 1: SKILLS DEVELOPMENT


PART 1: TECHNIQUE
Assessment description copied from the 2014 SACE subject outline booklet
Purpose
To show your technical development in the studied genre of dance

Description of Assessment
Students participate as members of a group in one structured technique class, or the
equivalent in a cohort group. Students will study technique in contemporary, jazz, classical,
tap, or break-dance genre. The class should run for approximately 1 hour, during which
students demonstrate an understanding of the appropriate skills relevant to the genre.
A videoed demonstration of set dance material only is required. Technique is expected to
contribute one-third of the assessment in skills development.

Format and Weighting


School based assessment:
Students will participate in a practical exam and be marked on technique based on this exam
as well as their ongoing work during semester as observed by the teacher
Preparation of evidence of learning:
Students will be filmed completing technical course work and film kept on file and sent to
SACE moderators in the event students are nominated for moderation.
Weight:
Technique is expected to contribute one-third of the assessment in skills development. Skills
development contributes 50% of overall dance mark.

For this assessment type, students provide evidence of their learning in relation to the
following assessment design criteria:
