BFA in Theatre
Arts field

enrollment in a
doctoral or MFA
program relevant
to an area of
Theatre Arts.

Created one
major piece of
work for a theatre
outside of the
university, such
as: wrote an
original play, or
adaptation;
designed a play
(set, lights,
costumes, or
sound); acted in a
play; directed a
play.

Meet all
requirements for
rank of instructor

4 years as
instructor as
required by faculty
guidelines.

Earn consistent
rating in teaching as
Commendable,
excluding first
semester, and an
overall rating of no
less than 4 points
for every
evaluation; at least
5 points overall
twice.

Completed Ph.D. or
terminal degree in
area of
specialization
related to Theatre
Arts.

Created two major
pieces of work for a
theatre outside of
the university, such
as: wrote an
original play, or
adaptation;
designed a play
(set, lights,
costumes, or
sound); acted in a
play; directed in a
play. OR,

Created one major
piece as above and
published a book
chapter, a peer-
reviewed
publication, or
presentation at an
outside
organization or
conference related
to Theatre Arts.

Meet all requirements


for rank of Assistant
Professor.

4 years of time in
rank, required by
faculty guidelines.
Rating of Outstanding
at least once in both
Teaching and Service,
and have twice
received an overall
rating of at least 7
points.

Created three major
pieces of work for a
theatre outside of the
university, such as:
wrote an original play,
or adaptation;
designed a play (set,
lights, costumes, or
sound); acted in a
play; directed in a
play. OR,

Created two major
pieces as above and
published a book
chapter, a peer-
reviewed publication,
or presentation at an
outside organization
or conference related
to Theatre Arts. OR,

One major piece and
two publications or
presentations as
described above.

Submit two letters of
commendation with
one being from
outside the
department.

Meet all
requirements for
rank of Associate
Professor

4 years of time in
rank, required by
faculty guidelines.

Rating of
Outstanding at
least once during
the evaluation
period in each
category of
Teaching, Service,
and Scholarship,
and have twice
received an
overall rating of at
least 8 points.

Created five major
pieces of work for
a theatre outside
of the university,
such as: wrote an
original play, or
adaptation;
designed a play
(set, lights,
costumes, or
sound); acted in a
play; directed in a
play. AND,

Published a book,
book chapter, or a
peer-reviewed
publication. AND,

One major
presentation at an
outside
organization or
conference related
to Theatre Arts.

Submit three
letters of
commendation
from outside the
department.

Meet all
requirements per
faculty guidelines.

Not to exceed six
years. May apply
early if indicated
by initial letter of
appointment.

Earn three
Outstanding
ratings in
Teaching.

Earn three
Commmendable
ratings, or better,
in Scholarship and
Service.

Created three
major pieces of
work for a theatre
outside of the
university, such as:
wrote an original
play, or adaptation;
designed a play
(set, lights,
costumes, or
sound); acted in a
play; directed in a
play.

Evaluated by one
outside tenured
professor from the
campus.

Submit two letters
of commendation
with one being
from outside the
department.
