How Violent Video Games Change our Society
97% of 12-17 year olds in the US play video games. Majority of the games played are
very vicious and can lead to unacceptable things. Some may include kids not telling the
difference between fiction and reality, they ruin our future society, and they are addicting. For
these reasons violent video games are perilous and shouldnt be allowed for teens.
Violent video games dont help our society because some people cant tell the difference
between fiction and reality. This is mentioned in an article called Do Games Like 'Grand Theft
Auto V' Cause Real-World Violence? and they state "Not everyone can draw lines between
fiction and reality. This is a big issue because when someone can not tell if something that they
experienced in a video game will happen in real life or not things can get perilous. It can be
critical to both the person and the world around them. Imagine this; you just got done with
playing a very violent video game and you are a bit spooked. You want some fresh air to clear
your mind but when you go outside you cant figure out if people are trying to attack you or not.
Video games can change your view on the world.
Another lousy thing about violent video games is that younger kids have started to play
them. Also that they have become more realistic. Whether its the realistic setting, characters,
arguments, etc. games have become more advanced and made things more lifelike. (Do Games
Like Grand Theft Auto V Cause Real-World Violence?) This leads to kids not telling what will

happen in the real world, making it an atrocious place to grow up in. Also if it is more realistic
kids will get more threatening easier just like the characters in the video games.
Lastly, violent video games are very addicting. Because they are very addicting many
felons were addicted before executing their appalling crime. Some may include the Sandy Hook
Shooter, the Virginia Tech Shooter, the Arizona Shooter, etc. (Do Games Like Grand Theft
Auto V Cause Real-World Violence?) Plus, according to Benedict Carey But if you look at
the literature, I think its clear that violent media is one factor; its not the largest factor, but its
also not the smallest. This is stating a very good point; while video games may not be the main
reason people commit the crimes it is still a part of it.
While you may think that videogames are a good way for people to get mad at a game not
in real life, the games may really just be giving them ideas for how to do an absurd crime. In
many articles authors claim that videogames can be very beneficial for intelligence. While
actually looking at a screen for that long isnt healthy for you and you are more likely to get
headaches and have problems with their eyes when they grow up.
In conclusion, teens shouldnt be allowed to play video games because they are
hazardous. I used to think that video games were just fun games to play but now I know the
consequences of them. So next time you reach for your controller think about how the game has
changed you.
