Electrical Connections (J -1 to J-11)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Variable Stator Vane Actuator (VSVA) located 4 Oclock position L/H Fan
a. Directs the Airflow into the H/P comp to prevent blade stall and engine surge.
b. Drives the variable stator vanes (via) fuel pressure
c. Controlled (via) the EEC from the feedback signals from the VSV act position
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Booster Stg Bleed Valve (BSBV) (2.5) (mstr L/H / Slave R/H) (3 and 9 Oclock)
a. Permits booster compressor (airflow) discharge into the (Fan) air stream
b. Ensures that the (Booster Compressor) outlet matches the (HP Compressor)
Requirements @ (Low Engine Speeds and Deceleration)

LP/HP Fuel Pmp - The (LP /Inlet) side of the pump rec the Fuel from the A/C
The Fuel Enters LP side then (the fuel) is routed to the FCOC
And (some) fuel is tapped to the (IDG FCOC)
The (main) fuel is routed to the FCOC
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------IDG FCOC Fuel is (tapped) and sent to the (IDG FCOC) (to cool IDG oil)
This tapped fuel is (sent) through the EEC and then Routed to
The (Fuel Diverter / Return Valve) and then returned to the Aircraft Fuel Tank.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fuel
Diverter / Return Valve Installed on the FCOC--Controls the Return (Fuel) Flow back to the
A/C tanks. (Thus cooling the fuel)
Controlled (via) the EEC (depending on Eng Demands) For Oil / Fuel temperature
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) Located 9 Oclock position L/H
Uses fuel to (cool engine oil)
Has a (Drain Plug) to allow for (draining the Fuel)
Fuel Filter & Fuel Filter (by-pass) valve (inside) the FCOC
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fuel Filter Located in the FCOC
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fuel Filter (by-pass) Valve Allows for fuel to (by-pass) the filter if it is clogged
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------LP/HP Fuel Pump Fuel is (routed) to the HP (inlet) side of the pump and then routed To the
FMU.
Fuel Met Unit (FMU) 1. Controls the Fuel Flow (via) inputs from the EEC
2. Protects against Over Speed
3. Controls the Shut Off Valve
4. (Fuel is tapped) to: Supply (HP) (Muscle Fuel) to Actuator
a. Stator Vane Act -- b. Active Clearance Control Valve (ACC) (HP turbine)
c. Active Clearance Control Valve (ACC) (LP turbine)
d. ACOC (air modulating valve)
e. Booster Stage Bleed Valve Actuator (Master)
f. Booster stage Bleed Valve Actuator (Slave)
Note: All of the Actuators are controlled (via) the EEC (except)
The BVA (slave) (the slave is controlled (via) the master
Note: This tapped fuel is sent through the EEC and routed
To the Fuel Diverter / Return Valve and returned To the A/C Fuel Tank
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The (main) Fuel is then routed to the Fuel Flow Meter
Note: Excess (fuel pressure) is released (via) the (By-Pass) Line from the FMU
And routed through the EEC and then to the Fuel Diverter / Return Valve
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fuel Flow Meter Located L/H Fan (7 Oclock) Position (under the FMU)
Installed in the (fuel line) (between the FMU and Dist Valve)
Provides Fuel Flow (Indication) to the ECAM
(Fuel press drives an imp (which spins and gives the indication)
The fuel is then routed to the Distribution Valve
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Distrib Vlv- Lct R/H Fan 4 Oclock Position (Btn the Fuel FM and Fuel manifolds)
Distributes an equal amount of fuel to (10) Fuel manifolds / 2 nozzles ea
Allows for (2) Fuel manifolds to (store) some fuel @ engine shutdown
To help supply the fuel @ next engine start.
The fuel is then routed to the Fuel manifolds
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fuel Manifolds A total of 10 manifolds (each manifold supplies 2 fuel nozzles)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fuel Nozzles A total of 20 fuel nozzles are installed The fuel (mixes) with the air and then
it is Sent to the Combustion Chamber
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Note: For Engine Starting Problems: Use Aids Report #10 in (Manual Reports)
Run Problems: Use Aids Report #11 in Manual Reports
Engine Overview
VSV Actuator:
Varies the
angle of the I/L Guide Vanes and Stator Vanes to match the LP
Comp stage to the HP Comp stage. This changes the angle of the airflow
Across the comp blades. The VSV angle determines the compression needed
For all stages of engine power. Controlled by the (EEC) and (via) fuel
Pressure from the (FMU)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Booster Stage Bleed Valve:
at low
(LP) compressor speeds the booster provides more air than the HP Comp can utilize. The
(BSBV) opens and bleeds off excess air to make the engine more stable. The air is bleed off
into the fan discharge air stream. At higher (compressor) speeds the (BSBV) closes to allow all
booster discharge (primary) air enters the HP Compressor.
There are (2) valves (master and slave) connected together (fuel press) and are
- 63 -
- 64 -
Synchronized to move together. The (master) valve is (controlled) via the EEC. The valves
close during T/O and cruise. The (slave) valve moves in relation to the (master) valve, to assist
in the movement of the Ring
