ESSENCE OF NATURE

The world around us is changing rapidly. Breakthroughs in technology will bring changes we cannot now even imagine. It is easy to get
carried away by all the new influences and possibilities. What is needed is an objective way of thinking, a neutral state of mind. Nature is
neutral; it gives and takes. We are rethinking our influence and our place in the world of nature. We see nature as the base, as the foundation,
it is a fact and it is safe. As a result we create a desire for an untouched natural environment. The understated elegance of the interior gives a
neutral look and a timeless feel. The interior brings peace of mind through the use of natural materials, neutral colour and transparency.

PULP started as a collection of interior design products

made out of paper waste using discarded vessels as
positive-image molds. The collection is the result of a
thorough research on new applications for paper waste
by adding water resistant properties.
It is a product signal of the trend ESSENCE OF NATURE
because: In the products, nature is used as a starting
point for established and secure data. The material
seamlessly balances between structural and aesthetical
qualities generating a robust and highly tactile result.

ANTOINE BRIDIER-NAHMIAS turns his attention to this

particularly phenomenon suddenly, under his attentive
eye, those unwelcome microscopic mushrooms reveal
their beauty and become strangely fascinating.
It is a product signal of the trend ESSENCE OF NATURE
because: It urges you to give in to the things beyond
your control, to accept nature and see how inherently
magical it is. It pops out of nowhere within the city, your
house, your fridge in the same way it might have done
centuries ago and at the same time reminds us of our
consumer behaviour.

SURPRISING SENSES

Due to digitalization and high-tech we are becoming more and more interwoven with technological devices. We have become used to the
fact that we are online 24/7. We are constantly in contact with our highly functional but soulless devices. We long for materials and products
that excite our sensesI in a binary system-dominated society. Sensitivity and tactility are more important than ever to stimulate our creativity
and imagination. This translates into experimental usage of material and playful combinations of colour, textures, smells and taste. Next to the
intensive contact with high-tech devices that enriched our lives in so many ways, we now want to be surprised and stimulated by the things
we taste, smell, hear, see and feel.

SENSORIAL STIMULI is a set of tableware to stimulate

your senses. The cutlery is based on five sensory
elements: colour, tactility, temperature, volume and
weight, and shape.
It is a product signal of the trend SURPRISING SENSES
because: dinner is eaten more and more in front of
the television or laptop so we hardly pay any attention
to what we are eating, let alone focus on what we are
tasting. The tools I created make us focus on each bite,
feel the enriched textures or enhanced sounds between
bites the designer says. By stimulating the senses the
eating experience is being enriched.

COEXIST is a furniture collection made up of rubber

molds. The furniture are molds of various locations in the
building of the Koningklijke Academie voor Beeldende
Kunsten in The Hague. The rubber molds became the
fine line between art and furniture. The rubber carpet is
a mold of the doors Porta del Paradiso by Lorenzo
Ghiberti.

It is a product signal of the trend SURPRISING SENSES

because: rubber is a flexible and very bendable
material. We are not used to walking over carpets made
of materials other than wool, fur or animal skin. By
walking barefoot over the rubber carpet with lots of relief
you will most likely have a surprising experience.

THE UTOPIA CANDLES have the names: Walden (Henry

David Thoreau), City of Tomorrow (Le Corbusier) and
The Republic (Plato). Inside the beautifully-crafted jar, is
a candle whose subtly blended fragrance helps evoke
the perfect world described by Thoreau, Le Corbusier
and Plato. Lighting the candle creates a moment in
which we are able to reframe on lifes moments.

It is a product signal of the trend SURPRISING SENSES

because: the fact is that we are rushing through our
highly digitalized lives and we hardly create a moment
for ourselves to just stand still and dream. These
fragranced candles help you do that. The smell
stimulates you to dream about the perfect world, a
utopia, and excites your senses.

Appreciation, admiration, and embrace of private origin and tradition; in a culture dominated by brand machines, where globalization is no
longer a development but a fact, uniqueness is more important than ever. Uniqueness is found in the own heritage; every consumer enjoys
local traditions. The search to your own roots and the curiosity of other peoples roots. Glocalization of products runs rampant, ancient
traditions, rituals, and habits are rediscovered and enriched by the power of the diversity with which people are surrounded with. Back to
the roots and a comeback of local products, products with a sense of place and tradition in a world dominated by globalization. Its about
finding our roots and spreading our wings towards other cultures.

CHARCOAL was first used as a water and air filter by

the Egyptians. In order to highlight the healthy aspects
of tradtional burnt woord, FORMAFANTASMA created a
line of beautiful vessels that purify tapwater using pitchblack material. They used an ancient traditional Swiss
technique to make charcoal. According to this tradition,
the wood is heated very slowly, five to seven days, to
carbonize. Formafantasma worked with the Swiss; Doris
Wicki, who is one of the few who can master this ancient
craft. She edited the pieces of charcoal and combined
them with glass. Pieces of charcoal are sculpted into
a paddle, ladle, lid, or a funnel which then act as a
purification system.

FORMAFANTASMA

It is a product signal of the trend ROOTS AND WINGS

because this design is a way to explore tradition
and nostalgia, and charcoals positive qualities.
FormaFantasma has embraced an ancient craft and
tradition and translated it in a contemporary design.

The Israeli designers ODES SAPIR and ARIEL

ZUCKERMAN combined technology and tradition. The
result is the KNITTED LAMP, a knitted bag holding a
lamp. Knitting wool threads in fixed patterns creates a
three-dimensional sheet of fabric all which serves as a
lighting fixture.
It is a product signal of the trend ROOTS AND WINGS
because: the Israeli designers Odes Sapir and Ariel
Zuckerman combined technology and tradition. The
traditional Israeli and Jewish knitwear becomes an
accessible design product.

RAL ARRIBAS, a Spanish designer, was very curious

about the Swedish traditions. He found out that there
were two major Swedish traditions: glass blowing and
coffee. By using a Swedish glassblower he developed
an unique percolator and coffee set.

It is a product signal of the trend ROOTS AND WINGS

because: Ral Arribas used old Swedish traditions to
create this design. SWEDEN & COFFEE is the result
of a collaboration between a Spanish designer and
a Swedish glass blower. They both used their cultural
background for the design process: the Swedish glass
blowing art and the cork, which is typically Spanish. Two
cultures emerging together.

GLORIFY TODAY

Over the last couple of years, we lived in times of crisis. But now we have had enough. We want to show wealth. We want to exaggerate.
Our living areas are becoming more and more extravagant, we play wealth. This translates into playful luxurious design. Modern objects are
placed on pedestals and under cloches; they are taking a prominent place in our living areas. We aspire and romanticize a life of prosperity
to experience an enriched lifestyle.

LAND ROVER DEFENDER is a customized Land Rover

with a whole load of different things inspired by various
countries. This gives the customized Land Rover
Defender an extravagant look.
It is a product signal of the trend GLORIFY TODAY
because: what STUDIO JOB did was make the
car more, in fact even more, valuable. The car
represents the excess of diverse values that is given
to the car in different countries. Studio Job used very
expensive material, and an excessive amount of it, for
customization. The function of the car, actually driving it,
becomes secondary.

bowls that interpret classical paintings of the 17th century
in a contemporary manner.

It is a product signal of the trend GLORIFY TODAY

because: It is an excess of products in white porcelain
and gold that can be placed on the table as if it were a
still life of some of the most famous painters of the 17th
century. Even though you cannot actually afford a 17th

IMPERFECTION

People are getting tired of being perfect. The industrial revolution made it possible to make perfect copies of products. Then we started to
demanding perfection of ourselves as well. The sky is the limit, so why cant we be perfect? But the tide is turning. Imperfection is the new
perfection. When you accept the shortcomings or put them to your own set, you are able to turn a mistake into a happy accident. The
essence of the trend is that the process is more important than the result. A process where new shapes are created and mistakes can be
made is, in fact, even more important are than ever. Nobodys perfect, lets show that.

It all started with the idea of creating an original piece

of furniture that would be contemporary, innovative, but
most importantly, to be emblematic of everyday life: a
table.

It is a product signal of the trend IMPERFECTION

because: the shape of the table resembles the shape
of a rock formation covered with snow called Babele
from the Carpathian Mountain. An imperfect design. The
emergence of new technologies and new materials with
this new casual fashion design, provide imaginative
designs.

paint, plumbing that is visible and living accessories that
arent perfectly finished. These are visible signals in our
interior that imperfection is the new perfection.

It is a product signal of the trend IMPERFECTION

because: we like to surround ourselves with imperfect
design to remind ourselves that imperfection can also be
perfection.

BORA HONG translated the Korean obsession for plastic

surgery by transforming chairs into design icons.
The booming cosmetic surgery phenomenon in South
Korea is an interesting topic when compared to design.

It is a product signal of the trend IMPERFECTION

because: striving for a perfect appearance inspired
her. She noted a parallel with design which creates
an ideal of our everyday life: a perfect reality. With her
project, Bora Hong wants to enter the discussion about
the malleability of appearance and the value of perfect
shapes.
