1/26/15 What where the early types of bridges? = Early bridges were
made of stones or whatever other thing you can walk in. They were not just
made to walk over but to also sustain the weight of the object passing. The
form also mattered a lot because for the bridge to hold it had to have
something to sustain it.

What was used before bridges?= Before bridges were built they used
arch bridges and they still do. They did because they hold weight for more
time because of their desing.

An evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of 4 different

types of bridges=
1. Arch: the advantages of the arch bridge is that it could hold more
weight and its shape helps it not to fall. The disadvantage is that you
could take a long and hard time building it ,and also in terrible
conditions cars or people cant go up because of its structure.

2. Suspension: This bridge is flexible to allow s ships to pass underneath

it when they are too large and dont fit. That is also a disadvantage
because in terrible weather because the bridge is flexible it can fall and
has to be closed .

3. Cantilever : This type of bridge just has one support and that helps it
not to move. But for the structure that is also a disadvantage because
it doesnt support too much weight.

4. Beam: This bridges are used to cover short distances and could also cover
long ones. The disadvantages are that the steel from where they make this is
very expensive.

A real world example (name, location/brief description) of each of 4 types
chosen=
1) Arch= One of this types of bridges is found in Shangai, China in
2008 and is 32 meters and one of the longest in China. An
interesting fact about this bridge is that in 2008 it received
IABSE outstanding structure award.

2) Suspension= This bridge is found in San Fransisco and Okland
and is approximately 91 meters long. An interesting fact about
this bridge is that you have to pay a fee to pass.

3) Cantilever= It is found in many parts of the world but one of the
largest is located in Quebec, Canada and its 549 meters long. An
interesting fact about this bridge is that its a riveted steel truss.

ans
4) Beam= One of this bridges is located in Feiyunjiang, China and
its one of the longest and common bridges too. An interesting
fact is that its ancestor was log bridge and that reinforced
cement is used.

Examples of poorly constructed bridges=
The yangmingtan bridge in china who killed many people
who were in a school bus due to its poor construction.

Tacoma bridge was badly constructed that killed many in

This bridge is located in Russia and it is at the peak of
falling.

Structure Bridges
We all know bridges and how they help us in our everyday life. Let us ask
ourselves something. Do we really know how bridges were invented or how?
The answer is probably no. So this is why we are going to get more deeper
into it.

Why where bridges invented?: Because it was made to pass by a river,

valley, and a body of water. Bridges vary depending on the situations you are
building them in or what you use them for. Early bridges were made of
stones or whatever other thing you can walk in. They were not just made to
walk over but to also sustain the weight of the object passing. The form also

mattered a lot because for the bridge to hold it had to have something to
sustain it.
Before bridges were built they used arch bridges and they still do. They did
because they hold weight for more time because of their design. Some of the
main type of bridges today are;
Arch: the advantages of the arch bridge is that it could hold more weight and
its shape helps it not to fall. The disadvantage is that you could take a long
and hard time building it ,and also in terrible conditions cars or people
cannot go up because of its structure. This types of bridges are found in
Shangai, China in 2008 and is 32 meters and one of the longest in China. An
interesting fact about this bridge is that in 2008 it received IABSE
outstanding structure award.

Suspension: This bridge is flexible to allow s ships to pass underneath it

when they are too large and dont fit. That is also a disadvantage because in
terrible weather because the bridge is flexible it can fall and has to be closed
. This bridge is found in San Francisco and Oakland and is approximately 91
meters long. An interesting fact about this bridge is that you have to pay a
fee to pass.

Cantilever : This type of bridge just has one support and that helps it not to
move. But for the structure that is also a disadvantage because it doesnt
support too much weight. It is found in many parts of the world but one of

the largest is located in Quebec, Canada and its 549 meters long. An
interesting fact about this bridge is that its a riveted steel truss.

Beam: This bridges are used to cover short distances and could also cover
long ones. The disadvantages are that the steel from where they make this is
very expensive. One of this bridges is located in Feiyunjiang, China and its
one of the longest and common bridges too. An interesting fact is that its
ancestor was log bridge and that reinforced cement is used.
Some of poorly constructed bridges are;

The yangmingtan bridge in china who killed many people who were in

a school bus due to its poor construction.

Tacoma bridge was badly constructed that killed many in November,17

1940

This bridge is located in Russia and it is at the peak of falling.

I learned that we are going to build a bridge, and learn what designs are
better for it not to collapse. Also the different type of bridges they are and
which are the best ones. I learned about bridges that were poorly made and
about to fall because there was not enough research made when they
constructed it. This is why you take time to research about it and make some
sort of rough draft so the final result is perfect.
