THE INFLUENCE OF USING BOARD GAME TOWARDS


STUDENTS GRAMMAR MASTERY AT THE SECOND
SEMESTER OF THE TENTH CLASS AT MA MATHLAUL
ANWAR GISTING TANGGAMUS
IN 2013/2014

Studying grammar is one of the problems for students who study English. Sometimes
they feel difficult and are bored learning it. But in other hand, grammar is an
important element in mastering English language. In addition, grammar is the main
capital and important to be taught nowadays, so teachers must try to find other
alternative techniques of teaching English to make students interested in English
lesson, One of them is through game. The objectives of this research are to know and
describe students grammar mastery, to know and describe whether there is an
influence of using Board game towards students grammar mastery, and to know and
describe whether Board game can increase the students grammar mastery.
In this research, the writer applied Board game in teaching grammar the classroom.

The research was conducted at the tenth year students at MA Mathlaul Anwar
Gisting Tanggamus in 2013/2014. The students of X3 and X5 as the sample that was
taught by using Board game and explicit grammar teaching technique.

Then the writer analyzed the result by using t-test formula.

The result of the research shows that there is positive influence of Board game
towards students grammar mastery at the second semester of the tenth class at MA
Mathlaul Anwar Gisting Tanggamus in 2013/2014. It shows from the distribution list
with df = 61 obtained the t ratio t0.975 or significance level of 5% and t ratio t 0.995 or
significant level of 1% is equal to 1.98 and 2.62. They are smaller than tcal =2.82
And the average score of the grammar mastery who are taught by using Board game

= 65.37 is higher than who are taught without Board game

the second semester of the tenth class at MA Mathlaul Anwar Gisting Tanggamus in
2013/2014. It means there is a significant difference between the students grammar
mastery of the tenth class at MA Mathlaul Anwar Gisting Tanggamus in 2013/2014
before and after being taught by using Board game.
Based on the result above, the writer suggest that the teacher should use the various
techniques in teaching English. By using Board game, the students are more
interested, more active and easier in learning grammar especially in learning tenses.
