Point of View/Perspective Unit

Week 1 (December 1-December 5):


Monday: Introduce Point of View (1st and 3rd person)
Center Activities:
o Write 2 sentences in 3rd person and 2 sentences in 1st
person and have your partner label them (whiteboard)
Point of View Quick Check (can you tell the difference between 1st
and 3rd person?)-Individually pull students to back to ask them
the difference
Week 2 (December 8- 12)
Monday: Determine the point of view in the following texts:
Beauty and the Beast, The Blues of Flats Brown, My Rows and
Piles of Coins
Center Activities:
o Point of View Practice-pick a book and find the point of
view by using evidence from the text-Complete worksheet
Point of View Quick Check (Can you read a text and determine
the point of view using evidence from the text?) Individually pull
students to back to ask them to do this
Week 3 (December 15-19)
Monday:
o Reading: Read the Polar Express and discuss the point of
view
o Writing: Begin to write the Polar Express from your own
point of view (all week)
Center Activities:
o Point of View Task Cards on Ipads/Use evidence to support
Special Activity:
o Watch the Polar Express movie and compare and contrast
the movie to the book using a matrix (Pay attention to
point of view)
Week 4 (January 6-9)
Tuesday: Introduce perspective
Centers:
o Introduce perspective through the original story of The
Three Little Pigs. Discuss the perspective of the story. Give
real world examples of perspective.

Week 5 (January 12-16)


Monday:
o Review point of view and perspective
o Read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs/ Tell students
that we will be comparing and contrasting the two texts
and looking closely at perspective.
Center Activities:
o Compare and contrast the two little pig stories using a
matrix/ focus on perspective
Point of View/Perspective Assessment
o Determine the point of view of a passage. Write the Three
Little Pigs story from a different perspective (police officer,
bystander, etc)
