To fasten your lap/shoulder belt, grasp the belt tongue and pull the belt in acon: Tinvous slow motion acrass your chest ‘and lap, Insert the belt tongue into the corresponding anchor housing on the Centar tunnel and push down until itis securely locked with an audible click, Belts should not be worn twisted. To unfasien the belt, push in the release marked PRESS on the corresponding anchor housing. The belt tongue will spring out ol the anchor housing, To store the lap/shouider bell, quide the tbelt tongue to its stowed position behind the assist strap on tha door post. For the passenger's comfort, the retracting forces of the belt are relatively low and winding up ofthe belt may be slow. Make sure the belt is fully sound up on the retractor. Safety belts for rear seats The rear seats sre equipped with lap belts with an automatic ratractor. I you have pulled out too much of the belt the retracting mechanism will take up the slack until the balt fits snugly ‘across your lap and will stay flocked in this pasitian, Satety belts for front seats The front seats are equipped with lap/ shoulder belts with an automatic locking retractor. The bell adjusts automatically {o your size and movements as long as the pull on the belt is slow. A sudden motion locks the bell. The automatic Jocking mechanism in the vetraeter will also lock the belt when driving down a leap hill or in a curve, and when the car's speeds recuced To fasten your lap bel, grasp the belt longue aa the outboard side of the soat, ‘nd pull it across your lap and insert the tongue in the inboard buckle. Push in until you hear @ click lo be sute the belt ig locked securely. To untasien the belt, pust in the release marked PRESS in the buckle. To store the belt, guide the belt tongue te tho rotractor, Mako gure the Bolt is fully wound up on the retractor. Belt tongue and buckle should always be opt on top of the goat for ready use, De ot permit them to get caught uncer the seat. Belt care Koop safety belts clean. If cleaning is necessary, wash them with @ mild soap solution, without removing thern trom the ear. Da not allow the belts to retract until thoy are completely dry. De nat use @ wire brush, Th pluge should also be clean and dey on the outside to avoid shorting and arcing, The gap can be set by bending the outside electrode. The gap should be 0.028 Inch. Installing spark plugs: Insert them by hand and screw them inte the cylinder head as far as they will go, Only then use the spark plug wrench to lighten ther firmly. Da not avertighten, ‘Checking the engine oil level Your W will usually not need additional ‘ol between the sehaduied changes. Even #0, you should check the ol level from time to time. To get a true roading, bbe certain the ear Is on level ground, ‘tension will then be reached after about ‘3O minutes of operation. If in doubt, have the balt tension enecked and adjusted by your VW Dealer. The heavy-duty V-belt has a very low stretch factor, When property installed, the belt tension will remain Taitly con- stant. Volkewagen-recommended V+ belis have a relatively long service life, however, it is good planning to always camry & spare belt in your car.
