What They Do
Main Duties
Conduct research into the design, operation and performance of
electrical generation
Prepare material cost and timing estimate and reports
Design electrical circuits, components and systems
Supervise and inspect the installation and operation of electrical
systems
Develop maintenance and operating standards for electrical
systems

Work Environment
Electrical engineers work in a number of places. Those that are involved in
research and design often work in tesing facilities, they make work in larger
commercial or government buildings dealing with electrical control systems and
those involved with manufacturing could work in a number of sectors such as
industrial, transportation or government to name a few. Some electrical engineers
are also product managers which means regular interaction with co-workers and
personnel for the coordination of larger projects. They may work in an office or onsite and their hours range from 40 a week up to 60 or more depending on the type
of work and deadlines involved.
