Kajukenbo is a street defense art based on Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, Kenpo and Kung fu
4 branches (Original Method, Chuan Fa, Wun Hop Kuen Do, Tum Pai)
Tum Pai developed by Grandmaster Jon Loren - blending Tai Chi into Kajukenbo
Tum Pai means central/middle way
Kajukenbo motto: Through this fist style one gains long life and happiness.
Kung fu definition: skill developed through hard work , time, and discipline
Kung fu works at developing a healthy body, a sharp clear mind, settled emotions and self-defense skills
Respect and courtesy cornerstones of kung fu training and practice

Street stages (level 1): moving around body using basic striking techniques
Intro to repetitions (choice of targets, flow, 3 -5 techniques, finishing position)

Basics: Basic understanding of footwork, relaxed body structure, breath, alignment, flow and covering.
Identify and demonstrate basic techniques against pads, with partners and in combinations.
Footwork: shuffling, 10 directions
Defensive techniques: brush block, outward block, slicing center
Hand strikes: vertical, back-fist, twist-out, chop, pokes, reverse hammer fist
Kicks: snap, side thrust, roundhouse, step behind side thrust, mule, spinning back
Other skills: falling properly, rolling, moving from ground to feet
Selfdefense principles: awareness, critical distance, line of attack, positioning, yielding, proper
body structure, covering, 5 ranges.
History: know basic history of Kajukenbo: where it was developed, founder, five arts, motto, branches.
Philosophy: Kung fu means skill that is cultivated through hard work. Kung fu provides an
opportunity to develop body, mind and spirit in harmony. The primary purpose of Kung fu is to enhance
ones health and provide self-protection. The foundation of Tum Pai Kung fu is the Wude code of ethics
and etiquette.
