Romeo and Juliet Blame Game
For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo. The tragedy of
Romeo and Juliet took place in the city of Verona, Italy. Romeo and Juliet is a story about the
tragic death of two lovers and the shocking events leading up to it. The big question is, who is
most to blame for the death of the young couple? There are many characters who had a fault in
this tragedy but there is one who sticks out amongst the pack While the friar and Lord Capulet
could be responsible for the disaster since they both played big roles in the story, Romeo is
ultimately most responsible because of his childishness and being irrational with many of his
actions, although there are a few counterclaims.
The friar and Lord Capulet both had big impacts on how the story ended. First, the friar
marries the two knowing their families were in conflict. Then, the friar gives Juliet the drink that
will make her appear dead without acknowledging the risks there were in doing so. Even though
the friar should not have allowed Romeo and Juliet to get married, it is not his fault that the two
insisted on it. Juliet and Romeo should have known that their marriage was going to be a
problem later on. However, the friar isnt the only other character who had a fault in the tragedy.
Lord Capulet can also be blamed for the tragedy. He was very selfish throughout the
entire story by forcing his daughter to marry Paris instead of allowing Juliet to choose whoever
she was going to marry. This is selfish because he only wanted Juliet to marry Paris to get into
the royal family. Lord Capulet also had extreme mood changes during the story because he was

constantly going from up to down real quick because things always had to go his way. Although
this played a role in leading to the death of the two lovers, Romeo should not have pressured
Juliet into marrying him without letting anybody know.
Romeo is ultimately the one to blame for the tragedy because he was very immature and
illogical in his decision making throughout the story. Romeos first mistake was deciding that he
was going to marry Juliet despite knowing that she was a Capulet. He should not have pressured
her into marrying him and been more mature so he had not allowed himself to fall in love so
quickly. Then Romeo loses his cool and kills Tybalt, Juliets cousin, to avenge the death of
Mercutio. Just when he had married Juliet he chooses to do something so irrational that lead to
him being banished from the city. Romeos most costly mistake came in the final act of the story.
When he arrives to Juliets resting spot he believes that she is actually dead after ignoring all
signs of life in her and so he ends up poisoning himself as a result. Later, when Juliet arises, she
sees that Romeo is lying dead on the ground so she then takes her own life as well. If Romeo had
not been so foolish, the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet would not have taken place.
Romeo is most at fault for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet because of his unexplainable
actions during the story. If Romeo had never met Juliet, they both would have lived. This tragedy
is one of Shakespeares most popular arts of literature he ever wrote. He was a writer way
beyond his time and this story of Romeo and Juliet shows it.
