Pre-plan site observations

1. My intended objectives for the site observations are to identify the behaviors people
present when they are submitted to class, work, and social environments in their
discipline. I want to discover how a person needs to act to in order to perform a
prominent job in the nursing discourse community. Moreover, I desire to analyze the
distinct equipment I will require to achieve an adequate role in the discipline. Finally, I
aspire to generate new significant thoughts and inquiries about my predetermined
discipline.

2. The objectives will cover a considerable gamma of my secondary research questions.

Although, it is not entirely concentrated on all the questions, the other components that
will be included in the project will contain the necessary information for the secondary
research questions. The categories incorporated in the secondary research questions can
be observed in this part of the project. Hence, this categories are the preparation for the
work-field, which can be analyzed when I go visit a hospital to observe the work
environment. Furthermore, I will be able to observe what to do in case of an emergency
or catastrophe in the work-place. Another category that will be examined is the study I
will need to go through in order to become a nurse; I will observe it by going to
classrooms in the nursing college. Additionally, I will be able to observe as well the
equipment that is required to be part of the nursing community. Finally, there will be the
response on how can I treat and related to other individuals in a good manner inside and
outside the work-field.

3. I have chosen diverse sites to go to observe, the following are my main options:
Las Palmas Hospital- This particular place will provide me the certainty of how the
nursing discipline works. Within this institute, I will be able to analyze the several roles
nurses play in the medical environment. If I get the permission to observe and make
annotations, I can obtain an insight to conclude if I will be adequate to perform such
activities.
Nursing college classroom/lab- I will conduct observations within the nursing institute,
in which I will acquire knowledge about what to expect as the further courses mandatory
for me to take. This practice will make me relate more with the environment I might
encounter in a future time, so I can prepare to be a successful member of the discourse
community.
Student Health Center (UTEP) - I was planning on doing site observations within this
place, which is located in the east wing of the union at UTEP. But, it does not allow
students to go inside the installations, the farthest you can go is to the waiting room.
La Cruz Roja (Juarez) I believe this observation will provide me a deeper
understanding of the discipline in an international level. The differences will make me
comprehend the components of the discourse community and how differs and relates to
other places outside the United States.

4. The populations I will be targeting within the site observations are mostly students with
concentration in nursing. But, I will also be observing nursing professionals.

5. I do believe there is a clear connection between my objectives and my choice of sites and
populations, because everything is aimed to investigate and obtain thoughtful and clear
ideas about my intended discipline. Since I chose to pursue my research in nursing and all
my objectives are concentrated in the aspects of such. My sites and populations are
focused in nursing students and professionals, in which the sites are intended to provide
environments, where they can demonstrate the behaviors, tools, and values necessary to
be successful nurses in the discourse community.

6. I plan to conduct the site observations starting from this weekend, I will travel to Juarez
and do some observation at local hospitals. Then, on Monday I will attend the college of
nursing to produce my site observation in a classroom or a lab. Afterwards, on
Wednesday, I will conduct my last observation at Las Palmas in the pediatric section,
where I believe they are more flexible with permissions.

7. I really intend to use the two column method, which is implemented in the module. I plan
to print the format that is included in it, and produce my investigation and observations
within this document.

8. I plan to conduct my site observations from a standing position, where I will go across
the room to have a better perspective of the place I will be located in. If possible, I will
try to have access to a second floor to obtain a more convenient view of the site.

9. I need permission from the respective people I will be observing. Besides, I will need to
ask the responsible manager or supervisor of the institute or classroom, and the
permission from the directors of the place being observed.
