1st Field Experience Activity/Time

I spent 2 Saturdays with my sister helping her set up various tools
to use in her classroom next year. She will be teaching High
School social science at St. Anne Paciella in Columbus, Georgia.
We created a weebley page, you tube page, wiki page, and
explored various educational software to implement in her
classroom. We also collaborated on Government projects which
incorporate technology as one of her courses will be teaching AP
Government.

Reflection
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)

1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn

about technology facilitation and leadership from completing
this field experience? I learned I can be a much better
technological coach if I am an expert. Helping my sister, allowed
me to refine my coaching skills in the area of technology. Since I
was with my sister, I was in a low stress environment and we were
able to troubleshoot several issues which came up in regards to the
Class Wiki. Thanks to KSU, I was very confident in my ability to
navigate and coach Heather on Weebley. Contrasting my ease with
Weebly, with other tools, I realized I need to continue to inform
myself on technology.
2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must
you know), skills (what must you be able to do) and dispositions
(attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology
facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you
selected in Part I. Use the language of the PSC standards in
your answer and reflect on all 3knowledge, skills, and
dispositions.)

I used this experience as a trial run on how to be a technology

coach at my school. Since this was my first semester in the
program, I was able to have a low stress coaching experience and
evaluate what I should work on in the future. I realized that the
knowledge of the content and technology is essential in all
coaching. I was so familiar with the government portion of the
websites, blogs, and wikis but I was unsure on a many features of
the technology side. I was able to learn more through this
experience and will be better equipped in the future. On cool thing
about this experience, was I was able to work with a first time user
of classroom blogs and other technological tools. I was able to see
the excitement and fascination in my sisters face when she was
learning how much technology will help her teaching. Seeing this
helped me formulate a disposition I will use when coaching. An
enthusiastic and engage disposition will be able to connect with
some teachers who are old school. They will be able to reflect
my disposition and get really excited about using technology in the
classroom.

3. Describe how this field experience impacted school

improvement, faculty development or student learning at your
school. How can the impact be assessed?
This experience definitely benefitted my sister and her schools
improvement. She will create a dynamic classroom environment at
her new school. I believe she will be able to assess this by
comparing test scores from the past few years to her own. She is
taking over for a retiring teacher who did not use any technology. I
believe this experience will help my school because it has given me
the confidence and ability to start coaching our teachers. My sister
asked many great questions which I had to look up during my
sessions with her as a student. Because of this collaboration, I am
better able to address the questions and concerns of teachers at my
school. I will be able to do an internal assessment each time I am a
technology coach and I can draw on past experiences.
