Final Reflection
Throughout this course I have made a lot of errors and I have learned a lot
through the feedback of my papers. I learned that consistency and self-motivation
are key to success. Reflecting on all the material in this course puts into perspective
the amount of effort needed to improve my writing. For my portfolio I would like to
point out my daybook reflections, my instructor feedback, and my polished work.
In all honesty up until this class I though I was a great writer. Now I realize
that there is a lot more to writing than I initially thought. The construction of my
ideas and the communication of my message are just a couple of things to consider.
The main thing I need to work on is developing effective methods of portraying my
understanding and incorporating other perspectives into my writing. In my
reflections I include examples of why a piece is relevant and how they are effectively
executed. I also compare my interpretations to success of the authors. I see
improvement on my writing in my other classes. My reflections are more in depth
and I propose better ideas than before. I outline my papers more effectively to get
my point across and elaborate on concepts that I feel require additional information.
The ethnography is a prime example of my application of concepts. After my
primary and secondary research I tried to correlate the concepts that I learned with
that of common goals found in my peers. I evaluated different strategies and their

effectiveness in relation to variables like gender and goals. I also included an

interview, which exemplifies methods learned earlier in the paper. I improved on
my ethnography by taking the feedback into account and citing my sources.
The assignment that I put the most effort in was the zine project. Instead of
just writing an article I decided to go out and conduct an experiment regarding the
fitness industry. This took a lot of time but I obtained practical and valuable
information. In addition to figuring out retail business tactics I also found the
motivation behind it. Evaluating, analyzing, and calculating all the differences in
multiple products took an enormous amount of effort because I had to pay extra
close attention to detail and learn new information related to supplement use. I also
included a top ten list with a brief but accurate description. This was difficult
because I not only had to take into consideration the most effective methods of
performing an exercise, but I also had to compare them with the most popular
methods. One thing I dont think anyone understood during the presentation of my
zine was the title. Our zine was called football bro science. Bro science refers to the
knowledge obtained through experience that is passed on from person to person. In
essence, our magazine incorporated relevant and useful information that is not only
scientifically correct, but also trending.
Overall I think this course is challenging but that is what it takes to learn and
grow. The experience I learned in this course will be put to good use in future
writing assignments. I believe the most important thing I learned in this course is
the development of my ideas and effective methods to associate them with my
writing.
