Final Reflection
Now as this semester is coming to an end I would say that I have learned a lot through
my mistakes. I learned how to maintain a journal or daybook and to become a reflective learner.
This course made me put in more effort on my work than any class I ever had. Going through
this course improved my literacy and it made me a reflective learner with a cogent style of
thinking. In this portfolio, I would like to draw attention to the daybook entries, processed work,
and instructor feedback.
After taking this course and learning from my mistakes, I learned to think critically at
everything I read in and outside of class. I apply the knowledge I gained to my other classes and
life. I used my knowledge of multi-literacy, social constructionism, primary and secondary
research, and visual literacy. After doing the Oral History assignment, I was engaged with my
work throughout the whole semester. I took the advice my professor gave me at the midterm
conference, which is to not fix the past work, but instead put more effort my later works. The
Oral History was the assignment that led me to the realization that I should brainstorm and make
outlines of major papers. I was a little disappointed with my grade on the assignment because I
thought I would get an A. I got a B instead and I dont mind, but I want to know exactly why I
got that grade.
The Ethnography assignment was another paper where I had to actively do my research
and develop a cogent style of thinking. This assignment was the most challenging for me because

was out of my comfort zone when I was doing my primary research. After the first observation in
the Student Union, my classmate Uthmann gave me constructive criticism and it helped me a lot.
This experience made me realized that I should take account to advice that would be potentially
beneficial for me. I had no problem doing the secondary research due to the organized notes I
took in class during the lecture and videos we watched. The notes I took in class helped me get
through my secondary research. When I was writing my paper, I was trying to connect my
primary research with my secondary research. I had to use logic to connect my experiences with
the statistics I acquired from the secondary research. In my Ethnography, I wanted to find the
reasons for the behaviors of smokers. I had to make my experiences sound convincing to the
reader by backing it up with my secondary research. The secondary research are explanations to
the reasons for why my discourse community behave the way they do. I think the Ethnography
assignment was and interesting one. Doing these assignments and being active in my daybook
improved my literacy.
My literacy is still not that great, but its amazing compared to the first time I stepped
into college. My daybook entries in my e-portfolio is evidence of me changing through my work
because I would add more without being asked. The reason why I did that is because I was
determined to gain knowledge and pass this course. I would like to draw attention to the daybook
and processed work section in the portfolio to show the change in my inquiry and critical
thinking. Overall my experience with this course was interesting due to the amount of
intellectual breakthroughs and I developed a cogent style of thinking.
