Readiness
I.
Goals/Objectives/Standards
a. Goal Students will learn that although Turkey has historically been more
Asian than European, its leaders are seeking to develop closer economic ties with
Europe.
b. Objective Students will gain knowledge about the history, the people and
culture, and current Turkey:
1. Turkeys history includes invasion by the Romans, rule by the
Ottomans, and a twentieth-century democracy.
2. Turkeys people are mostly ethnic Turks, and its culture is a
mixture of modern and traditional.
3. Today, Turkey is a democratic nation seeking economic
opportunities as a future member of the European Union.
c. Standard
IAS- 7.3.12- Identify current trends and patterns of population distribution
in selected countries of Africa, Asia, and the Southwest Pacific
NCSS- Thematic Standard: III- People, Places, and Environments, VIndividuals, Groups, and Institutions
Disciplinary Standard: 1- History, 2- Geography

Purpose
a. The students will learn how Turkey is similar to Europe and Asia through a
Primary Source and a Section Assessment.

Management
a. Students would have read the textbook section in the book for todays class
the night before.
b. Students will sit quietly and work independently in their seats.
Instruction

a. Bell Ringer- 10 mins.- What am I? Questions and If You lived there scenario
b. Primary Source- 20 mins.- Attached reading section over Atturks Address to
Turkish Youth and Questions
c. Section Assessment- 25 mins.- Questions that reflect on the section read

Guided Practice
a. What am I? Questions and If You lived there scenario is the bell ringer
activity that will review the last section but also preview this section

a. Smartboard- Used to show powerpoint slides, do activities, view maps
b. Ipads/Textbooks/Workbooks- Used to do section assessment
c. Powerpoint- Used to do bell ringer

a. Print maps/resources out for the students who may need it.
b. Give students individual attention who may need it

a. Give students other questions to do from the reading

a. Give the students with IEPs or ELL a notes sheet that summarizes the section
read.
b. Give students with IEPs or ELL more individual time enunciating important,
