Charles Dickens Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth in Southern England on 7th February, 1812. In 1814, Dickens is parents and eight brothers and sisters moved to London. When he was a young boy, he had to leave school and work in a factory because, his family were very poor. ‘Charles Dickens’ early ife was dificult, As a young man he worked very hard to become a successful writer. He was a reporter for several magazines and newspapers and started writing short stories. in 1833, one of his shore stories appeared in the Monthly Magazine. ‘A few years iater, ie publishes his frst novel, The Pickwick Popers, in monthly episodes from March 1836 untii November 1837. Charles aememeererrennre Dickens’ novel was very popular and made him famous. From 1837 to 1839, Oliver Twist came out in che magazine, Bendey' Miscellany It was a huge success. tn 1836, Dickens married Catherine Hogarth and they had ten children. Over the years, he ‘wrote many books including David Copperfield, Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol. He ‘ravellod ll over the country giving readings of his books acting out all the characters and stories for the public ‘Charles Dickens died on 9th June, 1870. He is ‘one of the greatest writers of the English language.
