RHS ADVANCE PROGRAM

Immediately after learning of

the Ebola outbreak in West
Africa, the Advance Programs
Center for Disease Control began planning its response.
A group of renown epidemiologists gathered for the planning
session, including Dr. Repula,
Dr. Maloney, Dr. Miller, Dr.
Fitzsimmons-Cruz, Dr. Hemming, Dr. Maurer, Dr. Snay and
Dr. Moulton.
Dr. Capozzola facilitated the
meeting during which the epidemiologists discussed the
epidemiological triangle as a
model for fighting Ebola. They
discussed ways to break the
sides of the triangle to stop the
spread of this deadly disease.

break, monitor progress in prevention efforts, and work to

control the spread of the disease. They will also be issuing
updates each week to keep the
public informed.

The meeting included briefings

(via PBS video) from doctors
treating patients in West Africa.
The team decided on the use of
contact tracing and quarantine
as the first step in their plan.
The idea of implementing a
travel ban was also debated.
Visiting the Advance Program
that day was the well-known
head of RHS, Dr. Urbanski.

BUBBLE BUCKET LIST

John Repula, editor-inchief of Advance Publishing, announced the release of The Bubble
Bucket List.
The List is a collection of
the things that students
would like to accomplish
before dying.
The idea for the project
came after students read
Tuesdays with Morrie, by
Mitch Albom. The book
tells the story of a man

dying from ALS. In the

story, he holds a funeral
for himself before he dies
to be able to spend time
with those he loves and
to be able to hear all the
heartfelt things his guests
wanted to say to him, the
man they loved.

BOOK REVIEW:

EDGE OF ETERNITY

by Dan Fitzsimmons-Cruz

The Edge of Eternity is a

book by Ken Follett published by the Penguin
Group. The book is the
third installment of Follett's Century Trilogy.

Get to the
library and
check out a
book!

Edge of Eternity is the last

book in the series, covering the latter part of the
20th century, in particular
the early 1960s- the late
1980s. Many characters
from the second book,
Winter of the World, have
carried over but there are
also many new characters
ranging from rock and roll
musicians, politicians in
the U.S.S.R., the U.S.A.,
Great Britain, and Germany, as well as Freedom
Riders, CIA agents, and
journalists. Another part
of the trilogies that has
carried over from the previous books, is Folletts
ability to breathe emotion
and life into important
topics from human history
that many people would
otherwise find boring. He
does this all while showing how the decisions affected different people in
different families around
the world. The first part of

the book focuses on the

Berlin Wall and how people were so desperate to
get out of East Berlin that
they would do almost anything to leave. Follett then
switches to a different
character in the U.S. and
shows the struggles of the
people fighting in the Civil Rights Movement. It
shows how badly they
were treated, sprayed by
the fire hoses or beaten up
by the police, who ironically, were there to protect
them. The book continues
like this for the entire
length of the story with
Follett switching from
character to character and
also switching from the
major events in history
during the time period the
characters were in. Some
of the other major events
in our history that Follett
writes about are creation
of Rock & Roll, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the
Berlin Wall, the Civil
Rights Movement, the
Cold War, Vietnam, the
assassination of the Kennedy brothers, and the
presidential election of
2008.
I personally found this
book very enjoyable for a
few reasons. I had previously read the other books
in the trilogy so I knew
what was going on. Another thing I liked was that
Follett almost exclusively
writes about historical
events in history with
much of what he is writing
being factual, researched

by he and his team. Edge of

Eternity is no exception. So
for a person like me, who
likes history, it is just another
perk because the book is in
my comfort zone of thing I
like to read and learn about.
But the main thing that draws
people to Folletts works is
his ability to always have
good character to reader connection. Follett writes so passionately about the topic he is
talking about that many people who read it get very
caught up in the characters
lives and make a connection
like we would with a person
in real life.
I loved the book and give it 5
out of 5 stars but I will admit
its not for everyone. The
book often has some scenes in
it that can be offensive to
some people. Its also very
long and covers historical
events in history, which is not
always everyone's favorite
subject. The book itself is also
the last book in a trilogy so if
someone were to just pick it
up and read it they may not
fully understand it because
they have not read the other
two books.
Overall though, I found the
book very enjoyable and
would recommend it to people
who like history and a good
read because the people who
read Folletts books always
have a good time reading
them and because there is
never a dull moment in his
books.

A VERY SHORT BOOK REVIEW
WITH A VERY LARGE FONT.
By Andrew Grock

Im not much of a reader,

but as far as books go, Of
Mice and Men by John
Steinbeck isnt that bad.

Its short.

Not a hard read.

Lots of characters.

Good storyline.

Interesting enough.

Theres a fight.

People get killed.

Its a guy book.

It teaches you something about the Great
Depression of the
1930s.

I give this book an overall

rating of 8 out of 10.

Welcome to The Culinary Corner

The Culinary Corner we review the
food brought in by members of The
Bubble. We try to take as many opinions as possible while keeping it
short, sweet, and real!
This week on The Culinary Corner we
will be reviewing the food that was
brought in by Ms. Wright! This past
Monday she brought in soft pumpkin
spice cookies.
I, for one, really enjoyed these cookies. They were small, soft, and sweet.
Good enough to satisfy any sweet

Miss Wright fires things

When asked, What did you think of

Miss Wrights pumpkin spice cookies?, the Bubble members all had
