Relevant Experience
DePuy Synthes, Mitek | Raynham, MA
Literary Researcher
Summer 2014
Accumulated and collated scientific literature that referenced DePuy Mitek products using EndNote in order to
create a searchable database with over 1,000 articles.
Concept Engineering Intern
Summer 2012
Worked on ACL repair project for femoral fixation and ExpresSew III suture passer device.
Developed and implemented test methods and evaluated mechanical testing data.
RPI Department of Biomedical Engineering, Musculoskeletal Mechanics Lab | Troy, NY
Spring 2012-Present
Developing innovative, wireless sensors that will be used to optimize total knee replacement surgeries, and
further understand knee biomechanics to prevent and treat postoperative knee pain.
Researching the changes in RF communication of the wireless sensors in proximity to metal and developing
techniques to characterize and mitigate those effects.
Publication: Wachs RA, Ellstein D, Drazan J, Healey CP, Uhl RL, Connor KA, Ledet EH. Elementary Implantable Force
Sensor for Smart Orthopaedic Implants. Advances in Biosensors and Bioelectronics 2013;2(4):57-64.
RPI Senior Capstone, Neck Injury Prevention Device | Troy, NY
Spring 2014
Worked in a group of six to research, design, and develop a neck injury prevention device that maintains full
range of motion, but also prevents cervical spine injuries in high risk situations.
Performed literature search on the pathophysiology and the mechanisms of cervical spine injuries, maintained
open communication with our project expert Arthur Jenkins, M.D., neurosurgeon at Mount Sinai School of
Medicine in New York City, brainstormed novel neck injury prevention methods, designed and built a prototype,
wrote full report, and presented project to distinguished RPI alumni and our project expert.
Global Engineering Teams (GET) | Berlin, Germany
Spring 2013-Fall 2013
Worked on a team of 2 RPI and 2 Stellenbosch University (South Africa) students to develop a new, more effective
method of pressure sore prevention that was inexpensive, low tech, and effective for wheelchair users, specifically
people with paraplegia, in both first and third world countries.
Performed extensive scientific literature search on the pathology of pressure sores, brainstormed novel solutions
for pressure sore prevention and executed mathematical modeling to validate design solution efficacy, developed
and built a phantom model as a validation method, built full-scale prototype of pressure sores prevention seat.
