Lesson Plan: Reading Comprehension / Phonemic Awareness


Teacher: Deniece White Grade Level: Kindergarten

Days: 4

Week: 11/3/14

Content and Standards: ELACCKRF3- Know and apply grade-level


phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Read common highfrequency words by sight for This Rig (e.g., this, my, here, go, gas) and Who
Is It? (e.g., you, out, come, who).

II.

Prerequisites: The student will understand and recognize high frequency


words previously taught.

III.

Essential Question: How can sound units be blended to make up words?

IV.

Instructional Objective: Students will:


a. Practice reading by working in small group to read passages from a
decodable book with appropriate phrasing and expression
b. Develop the ability to recognize, read, and say high-frequency words by
using a group word bank

V.

Instructional Procedures:
a. Before: In whole group the student will be engaged with a poem, Five
Little Pumpkin. The students will be asked to identify the words and
draws the pictures for the book. The student will understand saying
words in print will help to recognize and remember the words. In small
group the children will read decodable book 11, The Rig, and Who Is It?
Each group will rotate through approximately fifteen minute centers.
b. During: Day one Centers Teacher Group:
Read Five Little Pumpkins- introduce rhyming words

Assessment/Evaluation: The students ability to recognize and read the high


frequency words will be determined formatively based on their being able to
identify and say the high frequency words.

Differentiation: Individualized Activities: Decodable book 11 will be


differentiated for blue group.

Self-Assessment: The instructional outcome will be determined formatively


by the students ability to practice reading while working in small group to
reread passages from a decodable book with appropriate phrasing and
expression. Through observation the students ability to recognize, read, and
say high-frequency words by using a group word bank will further determine
enhancements needed ongoing and for future lessons to further the students
learning outcome.
