FROM YOUR PREVIOUS
LECTURE ??

KIRCHHOFFs VOLTAGE LAW

QUESTION TIME

State the KCL and KVL

At any node (junction) in an electrical circuit,
the sum of currents flowing into that node is
equal to the sum of currents flowing out of
that node. ( I in = I out)
The sum of the emfs in any closed loop is
equivalent to the sum of the potential drops in
that loop. ( emf = V )

HOMEWORK 3

ELECTRICITY and ELECTRONICS

- Circuit Theory: Kirchhoff Laws -

KIRCHHOFFs LAWS
1. KIRCHHOFFs CURRENT LAW
2. KIRCHHOFFs VOLTAGE LAW

After completing this lecture you should be able to:

1. Write KCL at every node in the circuit.

2. solve the KCL equations for simple
circuits.
3. Write KVL at every loop in the circuit.
4. solve the KVL equations for simple
circuits.

Exercise
Use KCL to find the current (I) in each branch.

Answer

Exercise

Draw the suitable KVL loops.

Write the KVL equations

Q: Now if you change the direction of I3,

repeat the process.

Given: R1, R2, R3, R4,

R5 and R6 = 1 and V1
and V2 = 1V.
Write the KVL equation
for each loops.
Solve the problem for
I1, I2 and I3.

Exercise
1. Draw the KVL loops.
2. Write the KVL equation for each loop.
