Social publishing takes another leap forward

A note from CEO Trip Adler about the Scribd redesign
December 22, 2009

Hello Scribd users! You’ve probably noticed that Scribd’s site has changed a lot over the last few weeks; we modified the top and bottom menus and updated the publishing feed, and today, we updated your home, profile and document edit pages, among others. These changes are all part of a larger planned redesign of our website and brand, which will roll out in phases over the next few weeks and months. The site will look and feel a little different at first, but we believe that it will be easier and more fun to navigate and explore all the great original writings and documents published on Scribd every day. We’re redesigning the site because we are constantly trying to create the best user experience possible for reading, publishing and sharing your work on Scribd. We’ve also received great feedback from many of you, and this is a chance to incorporate some of that feedback into the site.

Engineers hard at work on the Scribd redesign

We’re rolling the redesign out in phases because making even small changes to a site used by more than 50 million people is a big undertaking. Our goal is to minimize disruption of your Scribd experience and make the transition as smooth as possible. As for what’s next, you’ll notice the Scribd logo and colors change over the next month. This is a big deal for all of us, so here’s a sneak peak at what the new (logged-out) home page will look like:

This has been an amazing year for Scribd: Our readership has grown significantly, the amount of documents and written works shared on the site has grown exponentially, we’ve signed dozens of amazing partnership deals to acquire cool new content, launched the Scribd Store, and added a whole set of new social features that have forever changed the way people interact with documents, books, presentations, and other kinds of written material online. This is all part of our vision to liberate the written word and help bring publishing into a new era. Happy Holidays to all our great users around the world! Thank you for helping make Scribd the amazing community that it is today. ~ Trip
