TEFCon 2014 talk proposal. Javier Garca Algarra
SW development
is a strongly
gender biased
job
http://blog.bethcodes.com
But things were different long time ago. In
the beginning, the percentage of women in
Computer Science was quite higher
perhaps
because the
computer
was seen as
an extension
of the
typewritter
and using it
as a clerical
task.
By the end of the
60s the male nerd
culture became
prevalent in
computer
business. Women
were demoted to
be part of the
atrezzo to sell the
product.
What where the
reasons behind
this radical shift ?

Why the gender unbalance prevails half a century
later?
We will describe
the recent
scholar work on
this topic.
Gender issue is
critical for the
future of SW
industry. Knowing
its origins may
help to solve it.
