Class Profile for Unit Plan Overview

Year 5-6 class of 27 students in a Catholic primary school.

5 students with developmental delay in Literacy and/or Mathematics
1 child with ADHD.
1 child identified as gifted (participating in G.A.T.E. Ways program).
2 children with English as a Second Language, one of whom is a recently arrived
refugee.
15 boys, 12 girls.
2 Indigenous students 1 student with hearing impairment.
1 parent regularly helps in the classroom, and you would like to encourage more
parents/caregivers to become involved.
1 Literacy/numeracy Support Assistant for two hours three times each week.


5 Students with developmental Delay in Literacy and/or Mathematics
- An A-Z chart will be on each childs desk as an aide when completing activities
such as dictionary activities
- A grammar checklist will be on every childs desk to provide them with visual
stimulation when completing literacy activities
- These 5 students will be mixed with children of different abilities so that their
peers can help to support them

1 Child with ADHD
- This child will be placed at the front of the class, and close to the teacher
- The student will be aware of the quiet space, and the respect for other students
learning
- Hands on activities will be incorporated throughout the whole unit to limit
disengagement

1 child identified as gifted (participating in G.A.T.E. Ways program)
- Most English lessons have been adapted so that this student can complete the
work on their own, working at their own pace
- An early finish folder will be created for the student so that if they have
completed the required work, they can begin he challenging activities in the
folder

2 children with English as a Second Language, one of whom is a recently arrived
refugee
- These students will be allocated seats next to each other, and placed with the
students who are loud and hard working
- The students will be placed close to the teacher, and visual aides such as a
picture organizer will be placed on their desks to help them organize themselves

2 Indigenous Students 1 with hearing impairment
- Student with hearing impairment will be placed close to the front of the
classroom so that they are more likely to hear the teacher
- A portable microphone will be used on days that the student is having difficulty
hearing
- Students have post it notes on their desk and are able to write questions/notes
to the teacher if they dont understand

Support Assistant
The support assistant is in the classroom for two hours, three times a week to
help support students with literacy and numeracy.
For English lessons, the support assistant will be available for one hour, three
times a week.
- Support assistant will take 4 students with literacy developmental delay, for
half an hour, and the other student, the two ESL learners and the indigenous
child with hearing impairment for the other half hour.
- The support assistant will complete grammar activities and games with the
students, and help them in their research for their formative and summative
assignment throughout the unit.
