A Graduate of Westlake High School will be filled with
knowledge, ingrained with skill, and infused with creativity.
Course Description:
Through a series of lectures, guided interaction, and group exercises, students will explore the principles of relational leadership
and learn to develop individual and group leadership skills to impact their lives and their communities. Content areas include
decision-making, goal setting, effective communication, servant leadership, organization and time management skills, and
concrete strategies to implement change.

Dress Code:
I will enforce Westlakes stated dress code policy in my classroom. See the schools website for specifics or feel free to ask me if
you have any questions. Simply put, dont wear anything that could distract other students from learning.

Attendance Policy:
You will receive an NC (no credit) in my class when you have (1) one unexcused absence, (2) four tardies, or (3) five excused
absences, unless pre approved through the office, medically approved with a doctors note, or school excused. You are
responsible for taking care of your absences and tardies with the attendance office. Refer to the attendance policy on the

Grading Breakdown:
Participation 75%
With the nature of this class, the majority of your grade will be based on participation. You are a part of our team, and we need
all of our teammates in order to function as efficiently as possible. You will be given 5 points every day for being present, on time,
and on task in class. This is not a study hall. All class time will be crucial for carrying out our events that we have planned this
year. You cannot make up participation points.

Assignments 25%
Assignments may consist of (1) group work, (2) class work, (3) handouts, (4) evaluations, (5) experiments or projects, (6) and/or
research papers. Complete the assignments the day they are assigned, instead of waiting until the night before they are due.
You will score much better in this section if you avoid procrastination.

One of your assignments for your student council grade will be to give a 5 minute leadership moment during each term. Your
leadership moments have been assigned to you on the syllabus. If you miss your day, you miss the points. You can trade with
another member if you are going to be gone, but make sure you have taken care of it before you leave. Also this year, you will
have a couple of term projects. They are listed below

Grading Scale:
A = 94% - 100% C+ = 77% - 79.9%
A- = 90% - 93.9% C = 73% - 76.9%
B+ = 87% - 89.9% C- = 70% - 72.9%
B = 83% - 86.9% D = 67% - 69.9%
B- = 80% - 82.9% D- = 50% - 66.9%

Late Work Policy:
There is no late work. The entire school is depending on our projects and activities to be completed in a timely manner. If you are
not prepared for you activity, or you fail to complete assignments that are given to you will automatically be docked half of a letter
grade.
