Course Expectations

Psychology
Course Content: Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and experience--the study of how human beings
sense, think, learn, and know. Modern psychology is devoted to collecting facts about behavior and experience
and systematically organizing such facts into psychological theories. This course will serve as an introduction to
the study of psychology. arious topics will be covered including learning and cognitive processes, sleep and
dreams, personality theory, and abnormal behavior.
Course Requirements: Throughout the duration of this course, students will be expected to be attentive, active
participants in class discussions, group pro!ects, debates, etc. "n addition, students will be re#uired to write and
take notes daily. $tudents are re#uired to come to class with all necessary materials each day %pencil&pen, books,
homework'.
Homework: $tudents will be assigned homework on a regular basis. (nless otherwise specified, assignments are
due at the beginning of class. Late assignments will not be accepted. "n the event of an absence, students will
be given two days to make up work for every one day of absence. "t is the student)s responsibility to obtain the
missed assignments. Long term assignments and group assignments must be turned in on the due date whether
or not the student is in class on that day.
Grading System: *ssignment and assessment point totals will vary depending on difficulty and the amount of
preparation re#uired. +aily assignments will typically be worth ,- points and will be scored based on answer
correctness and completeness. *ssessment point totals will vary. .rades will be updated on Power$chool
regularly and students should check their grades often. "n computing semester grades, -/0 of the grade will be
in-class and homework assignments and -/0 will based on assessments such as #uizzes, tests, essays, and
pro!ects. This grade will represent 1/0 of the final semester grade. The remaining 2/0 will be the final exam
grade. The grading scale is as follows3

Attendance: =egular attendance is critical to the learning process. $tudents are expected to attend class daily.

tardiness will not be tolerated. <ach tardy beyond the first will earn the student a detention.
Etra Help: <xtra help is available before and after school. $tudents should make prior arrangements with the
teacher in order to avoid time conflicts.
